Rocking Chair Memories

As far back as I can remember, my maternal grandmother always had a rocking chair.

In summer, it would be out on the second floor porch.

The view was of the nearby tree branches, decked in an abundant sea of green leaves.

Sitting in that chair and looking into  the maze of green leaves was kind of like staring at the world from inside a bird's nest.

Once the cold weather came, the rocker came inside the house again.

Grandma used to love watching the Lawrence Welk while rocking.

She'd shush us to be quiet as she listened to the music, especially the accordion tunes.

When I look at the rocking chair on my own enclosed side porch, it's impossible not to think of Grandma.

They are happy memories. Even though decades have gone by since she left this world, I still miss her.

Rocking chairs were an important part of raising my own two babies, too.

While gently rocking, I held those newborns close to me, smelling their sweetness and nestling their warm bodies against me in tender caresses.

Now there are grandchildren who need to be rocked and loved.

DO YOU HAVE A ROCKING CHAIR?

Yes I have a rocking chair in the living room and one in my bedroom...they are much bigger than the one in your picture and are stuffed though. I also have a miniature rocking chair for the grandchildren in one of the bedrooms. I love to rock babies and have done so with my own children and now my grandchildren although they are getting too big to be rocked now...ha. I remember Grandma well but now I am Grandma.

I have two rockers, one for the porch and one for the house-they are truly gentle reminders of such a sweet time in our lives. I am glad that you have such tender memories, Susan-they are great for us to hold on as the years roll on.
Hugs,
Jemma

I love rocking chairs. We have one that belonged to my husband's grandfather. It has since broken but I still have it. I now have a wonderful rocker/recliner for sweet moments with my granddaughter. Rocking babies is so special.

Pretty pink cushion on your white rocking chair. Very "summery".

I do remember grandma rocking a lot; in fact, I remember her rocking me while softly singing(in Polish) or humming what was probably a Polish tune from her youthful days in Poland.

I always rocked my babies and sang to them all the childhood songs I learned in music class in elementary school. I still recall those songs from long ago days and I'm amazed that I still remember the words and melodies. Now I sing them to my sweet little Granddaughter.

I still have a rocking chair in my kitchen from when my kids were young. Yes, rocking chairs are a very good thing!

I used to have rocking chairs. And I do remember my grandma - both of them actually having one. And I remember the Lawrence Welk show and all the different performers! Good memories.

Susan, love your rocking chair. I'm so glad to meet someone who loves "the rocking chair" as much as I do. I have very sweet memories rocking my kids on there, reading them stories, and just singing and being with them. Thank you for the nice memories. I just saw a white rocking chair, and I was tempted to buy it.

love,~Sheri
