A Birdhouse to Make You Smile

Remember how exciting it was to start a new school year?

New pencil boxes and new clothes added to the feeling of anticipation.

We waited nervously to meet the woman who was going to be our teacher for the year.

Around here, she was always a woman.

Decades later, I still remember most of those first teachers who introduced me to the world of academia.

When I saw the little bird house shown at the top of the post, it made me smile. So darned cute!

Are birdies going back to school, too?

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT YOUR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?

Hello from Spain: I relive my time at school with my daughters. I adore brand new backpack, pencils, new books and meet the new teacher. Today we have male teachers too. Too many nerves.Keep in touch

I've always loved school and in my retirement I'm still going..ha. I was always looking forward to the first day..fresh new clothes, new pencil box, new notebook etc. No wonder I became a teacher and did that job for 41 years...

I remember plaid dresses, knee socks and oxford shoes along with the new pencil boxes. I always wanted the extra fancy pencil box, but with 6 children to outfit for school we had to be content with the little sliding box with a few pencils and crayons. We walked to school and had a wonderful neighborhood school to go to. The teachers were all dedicated and we learned so much. How fortunate we were....

My first day of school as a student is so far in the past that I've no memory of it! As a teacher, I do remember a few "first days," though. ~ Nellie

I have a picture if myself running down the driveway from the bus stop on my first day of school. I look happy. Must have been a good day! :)

Big Chief tablets and new pencils, the smell of the waxed floors and sharpened pencils, and my first teacher, Ms. Mason explaining to a crying girl on report card day that E meant excellent.

Susan,
Are we soul sisters or what? I bought this same bird house for Jess because she teaches elementary school. Isn't it the cutest thing? I'd like to get one for myself. So glad you have one, and can enjoy it every day.

love, ~Sheri
