Varnishing the Banisters to Two Flights of Stairs

Those of you who frequently work on projects in your home know how daunting things can get.

The list of things needing to be done never ends.

Every time I walked into our house and looked ahead at the first floor stair banister, it revolted me. It needed painting so badly.

The front entry hall of a home is very important. Anything shabby looking has to go and that banister qualified.

With a house guest about to arrive, I went out and bought a product that assured me would be suitable for using on the stair banisters.

It took me about an hour and a half on a stifling New England summer day to do the deed.

The posts at the bottom of two flights of stairs and the banisters that lead up all look great now.

Here came the problem:  in the sticky, humid weather, the banisters did not dry quickly.

I ran a fan but ultimately had to tell a house guest not to use the banisters when going up to the second floor.

It's now the evening of day two and they are still slightly sticky to the touch.

Maybe by fall they will dry. ha! They look great though!

I'm glad they no longer look shabby.

WHAT HOUSE PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON?

They do look great! I know about sticky furnishes as our weather here affects so much. Ofen hubby brings in small boards to dry in the house when the furnace runs!

Funny how we wait for house guests to do what could have been done long ago. I repainted the marred bathroom door and bought new towels before our guests arrived. Years ago we painted woodwork in an old kitchen, and it stayed tacky tot he touch forever. Hope you have better luck.

They look great. I varnished all the doors here one time and made a pretty big mess. :) Of course, drying isn't a problem in these parts, though it has been pretty humid around here lately.

Hello from Spain: the railing of your stairway is very nice and elegant. With the banisters are so much better. I hope they dry soon. I also like your carpet. I can not do crafts at home. Keep in touch

Nice job! They look wonderful. I just finished painting 3 sets of steps outside. It felt good to get that done. :) Kit
