The Here and the Now of Friendship

Isn't it funny how there are friends who we think are going to be in our lives forever and then they are not?

What about friends we never thought would stick with us and after decades of life, they are still around?

It's so strange but it's a fact of life.  Friends are with us for whatever time they are supposed to be.

When I was setting up the nick knack rack in the kitchen the other day, I placed the small blue and white articles shown at the top of the post.

They were given to me by a dear friend  who I met  when we lived in Arizona.

We shared a lot of our thoughts and hearts but then my family moved back to the east.

Communication with that friend became less and less and then ended completely.

I know she lives in Mexico now but she still comes to my mind from time to time.

Although she was not a "forever" friend, she lives forever in my heart.

When I see the little pitcher and plate, I think of her and wish her well.

HAVE YOU HAD FRIENDS WHO CAME INTO YOUR LIFE FOR JUST A SHORT TIME AND THEN LEFT?

Hello from Spain: I agree with your thinking. Friends are changing in our life. I had a friend who lived next door to my house. When I moved back to town I do not have contact with her. Fabulous gifts. Keep in touch

Yes, I have had people come and go...you are right though...they leave prints on your heart. To this day, I love my Hazelwood, Mo firend who taught me to not be afraid of color, who taught me how to cook a roast...

Yes I have. Still important friends even if not forever friends.

Yes, sometimes friends leave, sad to say. Some friends are just there for a time. I treasure all my friends, old and new. Maybe you could find your friend in Mexico and send her a note. She might be thrilled to hear from you. I did that with a friend from elementary school and we reconnected though we live far apart.

Ever hear of this poem?

A reason, a season, a lifetime.

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed or just felt. They have come to assist you through a hard time, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. Then, suddenly, the person disappears from your life. Your need has been met; their work is done.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share or grow or give back. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They give you great joy. Believe it; it is real. But only for a season.

Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons—things you must build upon to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all your other relationships.

Think about the people in your life over the years. Whether they were there for a reason, a season or a lifetime, accept them and treasure them for however long they were meant to be part of your life.

And when they are gone, be thankful for the gifts you received from them when they were here—for a reason, a season or a lifetime.

And my answer is YES and some I thought were one turned into another type and vice versa,

Love, sandie

Some friends are just like extended family..they are very close and share in all your life's joys and problems. Friendship is a wonderful thing to have whether the friends are there for a short time or life time.

Susan that was a sweet post. Many of my friends have passed away in their 50s and 60s. Reminders of them make me smile.

I lost three very close friends in their 40s. Since then it seems like it is harder to make close friends. I remember so many friends with fondness though. xo Laura

Friendship definitely takes work, just like a marriage. Many friends have come and gone over the years. I've tried to keep in touch with some but if there's no reciprocation, then that's the end of that. As they say, friends come for a reason or a season.

Hi Susan... I like your thoughts on friends...
I have no friends from my childhood or school days but I have some wonderful friends who started out as workmates and neighbours and 40+ years later are still close and constant friends... they are special to me... xx Hugs... Barb xxx

Susan, the blue pitcher and plate are pretty, and a reminder of a friendship that you once had that was special to you. I've had the same friends that I had growing up; we've had a long journey together. I guess that's good, but sometimes not so good. :)

love, ~Sheri
