Where the Trains Go....

There is just something about train tracks and trains that tugs at my heart.

To me, they signify adventure and wanderlust.

Power and speed.

As a child, in my maternal grandparents' house, I remember the sad blast of a train's whistle in the night as a train rumbled by.

Where it was going, nobody knew, but I can close my eyes and feel the feelings of being a child all over again.

In this blog are photos of train tracks I recently photographed, including one "passenger" who missed the train! ha ha

It was a wonderful morning for which I am immensely grateful.

DO YOU HAVE ANY MEMORIES OF TRAINS?

Susan, I think we are kindred spirits. I saw your train pic and came right over. I LOVE THE TRAINS! My grandfather worked on the railroad, and can you believe in the same town that I live in? The train is not far from my house, and I can hear its distant whistle now and then. These are great pictures, Susan. I love how you got them at different angles. And what a cute picture of you. Too bad you missed the train. That would have been a good ride.

Wishing you a happy week, and I enjoyed your train post so much.

love, ~Sheri

Memories I do same as you but where I live the Amtrack train has a station and I still hear trains going by every so often . They still blow their whistles and it is a pleasant sound to me.. There is a restaurant I go to right near the train tracks in San Juan Capistrano and it is so much fun to eat there and watch the trains stop at the station. Across the tracks there is the beach where I took the kids when they were little. Lots of train memories for me.

My Tiger loves trains and has since he was a wee little one. He could hear them before the adult ears could.

I love the sounds of trains...clinking cars, wobbly rails, moaning whistles!!! I would hear them at night in our little berg where in the OLD DAYS there were two lines passing through town and one very near my home.

Great pictures. I love trains too. My daughter lives near to the tracks and you can hear them rumble by like her father and I did when we were younger and lived near them too.

I haven't taken to many trains in my life to tell you the truth - but the ones I have been on were nice. Andy used to LOVE trains when he was little and so did Will!

I also love trains and the lonely whistles heard throughout the night. My grandfather was a railroad man and, as a child, we visited him at the depot often during our visit. Priceless memories.

Oh Susan, I LOVE trains, too! I can't remember at the moment if I mentioned them in my memoir or not! There was/is a track right behind my grandparents' house in Greenfield, Iowa...and when we were there on vacation, my brother and I would run out to the backyard when the whistle blew...and the man on the caboose would toss candy to us! I love the distant roar I can hear where we live now...not all the time, but when the wind is blowing the right way...it sounds very close. My family road the trains a few times when I was a child, too...wonderful memories! Thanks for this post and the great pics, and the adorable one of YOU!

Tonight I will read at Open Mike at a train station. One time the moderator said, "I will buy anyone an ice cream if they are interrupted by a passing train." That time he purchased seven. There are railroad enthusiasts who sit at the tracks and watch the trains roar by. Oh and your photo is cute!
