The Benefits of Sleep!

Without even consciously trying, I've made a wonderful discovery.

Here it is:  Getting eight hours of sleep helps me feel great, totally refreshed, and filled with energy.

It helps me function so much better.

Who knew that living on far less sleep could make such a dramatic difference in one's life?

There were years when getting sufficient sleep was impossible and those of you who have children know which years those are!

Countless nights for what seemed like an eternity, I was up with babies----feeding them, burping them, rocking them, cuddling them, taking care of them when they were sick, and just loving them.

There were more sleepless nights comforting foster children, most of them teenagers, who needed time away from their own families for a variety of reasons.

But at this stage of life, at last it is possible to get needed and well deserved shut-eye.

Scrunching under the soft, warm covers at the end of a busy day and evening has got to be one of the best parts of living.

HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU REQUIRE?

Since I've retired and live alone I sleep from ten thirty at night to eight a.m. each and every day. I almost never get up during those hours and I love each and every minute of staying underneath those covers. Then every morning at least five days a week I'm up and off to the pool for aqua aerobics from nine to ten...it's a great life.

I do well on 7 hours of sleep but find that often it's broken in two chunks. I may go to bed at 11:00 p.m. and wake from 3 a.m to 5 a.m. and sleep again until 8 a.m. I don't mind being up and it doesn't seem to affect me negatively. I read somewhere people used to always sleep like that. It's only in the last few centuries they began to goal for a long 8 hour sleep.

That is absolutely true. I fell back asleep today for two hours. It was wonderful!

I must be confused - what do you mean far less sleep?

I sleep about 8 hours a night. :)

I require more what I am getting now... Moreover because my toddler keeps on getting up at night at least once, my sleep is also distorted.
Me and my husband are trying to change our sleep pattern too, to get more sleep.
let's see :))
take care Susan!

Sometimes scrunching under those blankets in the middle of the afternoon is deliciously delightful too.

Oh, I agree completely! Sometimes, the best part of my day is when I crawl under clean sheets @ night. I need at least 7 hours, preferably uninterrupted. Sometimes, power naps in the afternoon are a delight, too!

I function best on eight hours a night, but I rarely get it. While I fall asleep quickly, I'm often awake three or more times. When I do, it's wonderful - more alert, happier, and ready to face the day.

Susan, I'm glad you're getting the much needed rest right now. I usually get enough sleep, but I still wake up in the middle of the night. I guess it just stuck from when I had to feed my babies in the middle of the night. And I usually fall right back to sleep. :)
