Salvia

All over town, I have seen these totally beautiful purple flowers.

Oh my goodness, they are sooooo gorgeous.

Someone said they are called "salvia."

I want some so badly!

They are apparently perennials, too, so they come up yearly.

Oh, the dark purple ones are just magnificent but the lighter lavender colored ones are pretty, too.

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH SALVIA?

I think and I am not sure - but when they come up in Alaska it means snow in like 8 weeks - and I could be ALL wrong! lol They are beautiful on the fields there.

I have a pink salvia growing in our garden, it is a perennial and has a long period of flowering and needs no special care. I read that there are perhaps 500 types of salvias in pretty much any color you like. The ones in your photos are beauties.

OK ...how to break it to you ..lol ..Salvia is used as a drug its an hallucinogenic, daft folks actually smoke this plant , thank goodness its not widely know , for most its just a gorgeous plant and as tough as old boots

I've heard the same thing Kate said above about it being a hallucinogenic. They call it Devil's Weed or something like that because the effects can be dangerous, even violent.

But it is pretty!

I haven't seen or heard of salvia... When I first saw the picture, I thought it was lavender. I adore this fragrant flower!
Thanks for sharing this beauty with us Susan!

Oh Susan, these are so pretty. I've never heard of Salvia before. They kind of look like lavender. Your pictures capture their beauty so.

You should try Salvie tea. Or use it as condiment!
