The Lights of Autumn

Sometimes the thought crosses my mind that I should have been born in an earlier era.

(Scrap the long dresses with the puffed out butts, however. I'd run like the dickens from those. ha ha)

Do you ever feel you would have been suited to a different time in history?

When it comes to decorating, just about anything old-fashioned is appealing.

Is it that way for you or do you prefer modern as opposed to old-fashioned?

Every fall, the thought of decorating the house fills me with anticipation.

Does that happen to you, too?

I think fall, or autumn, as some people refer to it, is my favorite season.

This year, I brought down some old-fashioned-looking lamps for the front hall table.

They usually grace a dresser in the master bedroom.

The story of these beauties has been previously told on this blog.

If you are interested, and missed that post, you can read it here.

Anyway, I love the look of these sweet lamps and they give a warm, golden glow to the front hall.

There's a pumpkin candle burning, too, filling the air with spicy scent so reminiscent of autumn. Love it!

DO YOU LIKE AMBER GLASS?

My daughter loves everything Victorian. She swears she was dropped into the wrong century.

Looks very nice! I like old. The new trend for steel, gray, and stripped of all flourish seems cold and sterile to me.

Loved the pictures of your beautiful entryway. The amber glass fits perfectly there.

Amber glass gives such a warm glow that is perfect for Autumn decorating. As the days get shorter it will be lovely to be welcomed into your home with a light shining through your amber glass.

I have a few pieces of amber glass, but have not put them out yet, as I like to think of these warm days of September as part of summer, which they actually are as the Autumn Solstice does not begin until Setpember 21st. After that I will start to think about decorating for Autumn.

Always enjoy your posts......

I think I was meant to live in 1930s England. Love the amber lamps. xo Laura

Susan I really don;t have an other time I would like to live in - but I have thought many times that I would like to visit for a week or two a lot of different times.

That lamp is amazing!

You paint such a lovely picture here, autumn sights and sounds and candles... Ah, I just want to drink it in.

I am a big believer in what's meant to be, so I feel certain I am meant for here now today. But if I could take a trip to another time, just to see, I think I'd pick the Star Trek future. Does that count! I just want to go warp speed past a nebula once in my life. Just once. ;-)

I do like the lights of a bygone era, modern lighting is just to strong.

Hi Susan! I do like old-fashioned or vintage things but I would not like to live in past times..lol :) I think it is so great we can actually create that old time when living in present. If you understand what I am talking about.
The lamps though are my favourite home decor, their light is so cozy and welcoming...

Very pretty Susan. I saw lots of amber when I was in Poland with the kids. Beautiful colors...

Your lamps look pretty on your hall table, Susan. They look a bit Victorian. Yes, I am drawn to different eras, but I am a woman of many styles. I don't like modern, but I do like the 'Old World' look. I also like Bohemian, French, and just one-of-a-kind things. The soft glow of your lamps makes your home look cozy.

As I think you already know, fall is definitely my favorite season, too! And yes, I've said many times I was born in the wrong era, too. Mine would be that I was in my 20s or 30s in the 1940s.
