Their tenacity. On the way to America many of them died due to poor conditions in the boats. By the time they had the 1st Thanksgiving many had not survived the harsh winter and lack of food . They were determined to stay and forge a new life here.
They truly lived off the land. I used to ask my students where the Pilgrims and Native Americans went for food. they always named the markets their parents shopped at. Such a hard life.
I do love your pilgrims. I think they are studied a lot when kids are young and in school. The older they get and the older we get - the less we think of what they did. I am so glad you reminded us. Yes they did do a lot. I have the same salt and pepper shakers!
You are SO ready! Fear the month will go fast but will hang on to each day tightly.
I am late getting my pilgrims out! I have several sets that I enjoy so much and have kept over the years. I always am frustrated that the media glosses over Thanksgiving. I marvel at the pilgrims who valued their faith so greatly they left all they knew to worship freely.
The pilgrims came for religious freedom and endured many many hardships in order to worship as they please. Our country was built on those principals. That's what impressed me about them. Their first thanksgiving included the native Americans and we should immulate them.
Susan, I was just telling Jess yesterday that I don't have a lot of Thanksgiving décor, just one pitcher that says "cherish home." But I guess that says it all, and I can see that you cherish your home and so many other things in life. Love your little pilgrims around the house, they are special for this month of Thanksgiving.

Lovely ceramics! Well, we all are pilgrims!
Their courage from the time that they stepped on that boat. Wow! I can't imagine the fear. Kit
