Birthday Cake Special

March is hub's birthday month.

For more than four decades,  he has had homemade birthday cakes on his special day.

This year, however, because I'm trying hard to avoid baking, in order to lose weight,  he had a purchased birthday cake.

It was very, very small.

Inside, there were two layers----one chocolate and one vanilla.

There was even a filling with fresh strawberries.

The frosting was creamy and not too sweet.  I think it must have had whipped cream in it.

On the top were two large chocolate-covered strawberries. (In the photo above, however, there is only one. The other one was quickly scarfed by a little visitor.)

I bought it at a specialty bakery section of a supermarket for $8.99.

It was just enough.

Adding to the celebration were "sparkler" candles that were quite festive, plus vanilla and strawberry ice cream.

DO YOU BUY CAKES OR PREFER TO BAKE YOUR OWN?

These days I have no choice but to buy. This is a sweet little cake and it was enough...we should all follow your lead!

I usually bake my own...chocolate is the favorite around my house. But the kids birthdays have cupcakes now and all kinds of themes...I don't bake those. My grandkids usually have their Mom bake those. I also like ice cream cakes from Baskin Robbins. I'm sure your husband LOVED his piece of that perfect cake.

Hello, sweet Susan! Long time no chat....I trust you are well.

The cake your husband chose looks oh-so-good! Of course I am craving something sweet right now :) I like both - homemade and store-bought. I guess it depends on the mood I'm in.

Happy Birthday to your husband! Take care, dear Susan. Hugs!

Happy Birthday to your hubby. The little cake looks just so yummy and perfect. My hubby used to like his homemade Lemon cake but now he likes one from the Mexican store, so I don't have to bake!
I can't have baked goods, i understand it's best to buy a little cake.

I seldom bake, so a store bought cake is great! This one looks yummy!

I haven't baked a cake in years. We buy ours. The one you picked up looks yummy, indeed.

We have a great grocery store bakery that makes incredible cakes. So I usually buy my cakes. I too steer away from baking to keep from eating all the goodies. :) Kit

YUMMY CAKE!!! Happy Birthday to your dear husband, Susan. I sometimes buy a piece of cake at the bakery to have with my coffee, but there's just nothing like a homemade cake. : ) I hope he has a wonderful birthday this month.
