Words of Wisdom

                            "The positive always defeats negative:
                            Courage overcomes fear,
                            Patience overcomes anger and irritability,
                            Love overcomes hatred."
                                                                                    (By Swami Sivananda Sarasvati)

At popular Friends of the Library book sales each year, a basket filled with little books sits near the check-out line.

It's so easy to pick up a bunch of these pint-sized gems and keep them in another small basket on a bathroom counter.

A very petite book titled, "Springs of Indian Wisdom," I once purchased for $1.

It's inscribed by an unknown mother to her son, Brian.

She signed it "Love, Mom" and it's dated Christmas of 1965.

The publisher of the three-inch high volume was Herder Book Center, 232 Madison Ave., New York, N.Y.

It's a wonderful little book with short and sweet words of wisdom.

The words at the top of this post are from "Springs of Indian Wisdom."

Books, no matter what their size, and book sales, are among life's truly shining treasures.

TELL US TWO MATERIAL THINGS IN LIFE YOU CONSIDER "TREASURES."

It's hard to really pin down a material treasure. I started looking at the big things in the house. I found what I thought were treasures .... but I could really do without them. Then began looking at the smaller items.

1. The faithful coffee machine. We have had this one for years and years. Before this machine it seemed we were replacing one every year.

2. But with the faithful coffee machine goes the faithful husband who makes the coffee with the faithful coffee machine. I haven't made coffee for the over 46 years we have been married.

The first treasure might just maybe have to be replaced. But the second treasure .... NEVER!

You know when the kids were little - they all made me things. They are not beautiful to the average person - and they are worth nothing if you were to sell them, but to me they are priceless and will be with me until I die.
