The breakfast I hosted for sweet guests on Sunday turned out great, despite cooking and setting the table in sauna bath heat.
Here was the menu:
Creme Brulee French Toast
Fancy Egg Scramble
Beans with sour cream and salsa
Rice
Fried Platanos
Multi-fruit cup
Zatar with olive oil and pita bread triangles
Coffee with half-and-half
Saturday night I spent three hours preparing Creme Brulee French Toast and Fancy Egg Scramble, both of which needed overnight refrigeration.
Also had small red beans (frijoles) cooking in the crock pot.
Sliced fresh berries, sprinkled them with sugar, and put them in a container in the fridge.
Mixed fresh pineapple chunks, coconut, cubed nectarines and peaches, cherry halves, grapes, and Gala apple chunks.
(In the morning, I added the strawberries, blueberries, fresh raspberries, watermelon and cantaloupe.)
Zatar is a Mediterranean spice mixture that contains sesame seeds, oregano and lemon flavor.
It's utterly delicious.
It's served with pita bread triangles which are dipped in olive oil and then the zatar. Yum!
My splurge of the day was a bouquet of six roses, three yellow and three red.
Soooo pretty for a centerpiece along with candles in the big brass candlesticks.
After making the casseroles and fruit cup, I set the dining room table.
By bedtime, exhaustion was threatening to take over but after seven hours of sleep, I was raring to go.
Tomorrow I'll share the story and recipe behind the Fancy Egg Scramble, so, if interested, stay tuned.
Here are the fried platanos. They taste best with a plop of delicious sour cream!
