To Honor Those Who Fought for Freedom

(I took this photo looking up at the ceiling inside the tower)

There's a huge war memorial tower at the top of Greylock Mountain in Western Massachusetts, built in honor of Massachusetts veterans who fought for freedom.

Here it is shrouded in  heavy layers of fog.

The last visit made there, the entire top of the mountain was immersed in thick fog!

The huge tower has been up there for as long as I can remember.

On a recent excursion to the top of the mountain, there were signs posted that one could no longer go up the narrow stairs to the top of the tower.

It's to undergo renovation this fall.

That was really good news  because the tower really needs a lot of upkeep.

It's a fabulous place, though.

Looking up at the ceiling is worth a trip up the mountain!

I love all the sayings that run all the way along the rim of the walls, too.

Hopefully, all the missing letters will be replaced during the renovation.

All the arcs in the ceiling look like mosaics, too.

Imagine how long that must have taken to complete!

Going to the top of this lovely mountain is always fun with guests. However, I always make it clear that someone else will have to drive.

"I don't drive Mt. Greylock," is always my explanation----too scary. I'm scared enough of heights as it is, let alone driving a car along a hairpin curve on a mountain side. Uh uh.

But once you get to the top, the scenery, on a sunny day, anyway, is quite awesome.
