Change of Scene

Sometimes, when problems start to overwhelm and the psyche tires from stress and worry, a change of scene is the best way to re-energize.

If the change of scene is spontaneous, it's even better. Last weekend, a sister of mine agreed to drive to Stonington, CT. A last minute reservation at the Inn at Stonington was made and off we went!

Stonington is a lovely seaside village with an air of sophisticated quaintness. Many of the old New England homes are gorgeous to look at with their paned windows, fireplace chimneys, columns, shutters, screened porches, brick walkways, and widows' lookouts on top of their roofs.

The Inn at Stonington was a good choice of accommodations. Spotless and welcoming, it has shiny wood floors, and a wall of French doors in the dining room, complete with a fireplace. Wine and cheese were served at 6 p.m.

The room was spacious, neat, and comfortable.
The bathroom was huge and came with soft white towels, white robes, and a fabulous jacuzzi with jets strong enough to wipe out muscle aches and pains.

(The bathroom was big enough to be a kitchen.)

Right on Stonington Harbor, the inn is close to shops and restaurants. For breakfast, served from 8 to 10 a.m., one had a choice of granola, corn flakes, etc., hard boiled eggs, yogurt, melon and pineapple slices, and three kinds of breads, including a rather tasty pistachio (I had just a tiny nibble). Strangely enough, the coffee dispensers were located behind the bar area and an inn employee dispensed coffee into the cups. Thought that was a rather strange arrangement, particularly since I like more than one cup of coffee and don't like asking for refills. I did ask but it felt uncomfortable, as if the message was that coffee's an expensive item so drink just a little of it.

As for what else we saw on our change of scene weekend, more will be shared in other posts this week.
