Up, Up and Away

Driving down a busy street in a  nearby town the other day,  I happened to glance through the windshield and couldn't believe my eyes.

Was I seeing things or was that really a gargantuan balloon bobbing along in the sky?  Was I hallucinating?  The blue, orange, red, and yellow designs on it seemed to contrast against the blue sky.

Naturally, my handy little camera was nearby and, with one hand on the steering wheel, I snapped photos with the other.  Actually, I wanted to stop in the middle of the road and just gape but that wouldn't have been very smart now, would it have?

As the balloon drifted above my car, I could see the flames keeping the interior hot and inflated.

Wouldn't it be exciting to ride in a balloon?  One could just drift above stores, the highway, and houses, like Mary Poppins. I think it would be a blast. However, fear has always halted me from doing it.

What if the balloon got too close to electrical wires or landed accidentally in the middle of  a lake? Yikes. I would not even want to entertain the possibility of what could happen.

The balloon, apparently on an advertisement adventure, passed over my car and floated away in the other direction.

You see something new every day!

WOULD YOU LIKE TO TAKE A HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE SOME SUNDAY AFTERNOON?

Last weekend was the Balloon Glow in our town. On Friday night hundreds of balloons set up and fired up at dark, but stayed tethered. The next day they had a balloon race, and the sky is filled with all sorts of hot air balloons. It is a sight to behold, but always crowded in Forest Park where the 1904 World's Fair was held in St. Louis. One year when my kids were little, the wind carried them over our neighborhood and they were so low we could hear them talking. It was awesome.

Susan, didn't the balloon look like a piece of stained glass floating in the sky? Lovely picture.

Didn't your son take a hot air balloon ride once? Good thing he takes after his Father! Ha.
They have hot air balloon rides in the next town over from me but I am really not into heights of any kind.

Oh this is too funny. I have always wanted to fly in a hot air balloon too!

What has stopped me is that it is so expensive.

It would be a blast though -- wouldn't it?

Neat shots. It has been a long time since I have since a hot air balloon!

I posted the same thing this summer. Me and my two aunts and my mom had been out thrifting in Ohio and we could see a hot air balloon just like this one -- my Aunt Gay who was driving, went all through cornfields and farm country so me and Aunt Elaine could get just that right shot for our blogs. HA!

Hope you are having a great weekend. :) Tammy

I have a friend who is at the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque (not sure how you spell that one). She's going up in a balloon tomorrow. Should be quite exciting. It's her second time to take a ride.

Wouldn't it be great if this were the way we traveled everywhere we went?
