The adorable gift made my heart especially glad since we had moved cross-country and were spending the holidays far away from friends and family.
A brown box arrived at our door. Inside, I lifted the pillow from beneath the rustling tissue paper and felt hot tears running down my cheeks. It's never fun being homesick, but especially so at Christmas time. The gift, made with so much love, just touched my heart in a poignant way.
Fast forward 20 years. We are, once again, back on the east coast. The kids are all grown up and married. Christmas is here again.
A few weeks ago, in one of the storage boxes in the attic, I found the pillow once again. It's just as beautiful as the day it arrived so long ago. It adorns a pink velvet tufted chair in the living room, right next to the lighted tree.

I remember those patterns from years ago. Your sister did a great job with the painting. Sweet memories each holiday season. Hope you are having a great day. :) Tammy
That is a very special pillow. I have some ornaments from my childhood. They have become so fragile that I don't hang them on a tree anymore but put them in a jar to enjoy!
That pillow is gorgeous.
My mother was a master at crafts.(That's why I'm not - she took all the talent!). She made every kind of gorgeous decorations for the house - for all the holidays. I bring out her things and I think of her surrounding me.

Beautiful pillow!
Yes, all of the things that I was able to save from my childhood. They bring back wonderful memories of when I had both of my parents as they are both gone now.

The pillow is so cute! I am glad you found one of your beautiful treasures.
Christmas is a time when we all get homesick I think and things from the past such as your lovley pillow makes it a little better
I have a bell that we hang on our big tree every year and have for many years !
Enjoyed reading your post
The old things are memories we can hold in our hand. I have a bell oranament with southwestern flavor, beige like the desert with a cedar stuffed cowboy boot painted on the side. Our neighbors of 30 years ago brought it to us from Colorado...it is the one and only Lambeth ornament.
What a beautiful little pillow! I love it, especially since it has both Santa AND a reindeer on it (I collect BOTH). I even did a post on reindeer on my Christmas blog last night! Thanks so much for stopping by to visit me and I hope you will return often!
Happy PINK SATURDAY!

Hi Susan -
Cute pillow! Your sister is talented.
My mother has a large Christmas ornament given to her mother as a teenager. It is the only surviving one from a set of four. (It's from 1916 - almost 100 years old.)
Blessings,
Susan :)
I have a pillow from that sister too and it is decorating my living room couch tonight and as always around the holiday season. Isn't she talented?
