Time to Think About New Year's Goals

When I was young, each new year meant making a list of "resolutions."

Just the word "resolution" gives me the creeps. It's so unfriendly. It kind of connotes "no fooling around."
Most years of my life "lose weight" was the Number One Resolution. For the first few weeks of the year I usually did quite well with the food and then, eventually, reverted back to familiar eating habits.

"Exercise more" also became a familiar resolution at the beginning of each new year. Last year I definitely succeeded at that one by swimming two to three mornings a week!  That was definitely a highlight for 2010. Moving the body feels great!

This year---the year coming, that is---2011, I'm not doing resolutions. Instead, I've changed the word to "goals."  That sounds friendlier to me. I can work on goals better than doing something that's "resolved."

While I could probably come up with a couple dozen goals that would be great to complete, purposely I'm keeping the list short. When I write each one down, I'm going to work really hard to complete it. Life is a wondrous journey and goals make it even better.

DO YOU MAKE NEW GOALS EACH YEAR? DO YOU COMPLETE SOME?

P.S. The little dog with the Christmas tree on top of his head,  shown in this post's photos, sang when you pressed his paw. His ears went up and down, too. Got a couple of these delightful doggies to give as  gifts this Christmas season. They definitely elicited smiles.

Knowing your gift of tenacity, disciplined nature, and giftedness in completing things you start, I am sure you will make a dent in your "short"list...our positive belief system should help you in that area too. Here's a wish that you little "hot tamale" will not only complete your goals but even find that some of your dreams will come true! xoxoxoxoxbb

Resolutions is an ugly word. It brings up memories of failures...

I like goals much better than resolutions as well. I am working on my goal list! I usually do pretty good at keeping at least some of them. ;)

Hi Susan! Ugh, I don't even want to think about resolutions. I like your choice of words - goals. Love that funny little dog! haha I'll bet he did get a lot of smiles!

I posted on my blog several links to heated birdbaths. I hope you find one that you like!... Donna

No matter what you call them, goals or resolutions, I seem to have an issue with commitment. My to do list always gets side aside so that I can do whatever! I always kick myself later for not getting things done. But then again, I think, who says they had to be done. No one knows but me. But then I dwell! I toss and turn from dwelling on things. My first goals should be to stop procrastinating and get organized. I think I'll start tomorrow. :) Happy day to you. Tammy

Love the dog! Only once in my life have I ever kept a New Year's resolution (goal)for an entire year! It was for the year 2010! Yup, that's right, this past year (still have 2 days left)! The goal was to floss every night! LOL!!! So far, so good! So, this year my goal is to create a healthier life for myself and my husband! It's all about being healthy and happy! Hopefully the journey will be worth blogging about!

No resolutions - the very thought of the word itself almost suggests complete failure. I try to just keep my nose to the grindstone and headed in right direction.

I am kind of like you --- I don't like the word resolutions! Goals is good! I usually use the word "lifestyle choices" or "lifestyle changes". That seems to take some of the pressure off and I don't build resistance to change so much then.

Thanks for liking my mountain meadow snow picture. Yes, I took it --- it's right near our cabin. I left you a response on my blog --- right after your comment. If blogger would only work like Facebook, commenting would be SO much easier, wouldn't it!
