Tale of The White, Lacy Curtains

A tiny, downstairs bathroom with a funky “step-up” feature has a small window. It had blinds that opened and closed but still kept the room quite dark.

It was my husband’s request to get rid of the blinds.

“This room need more light,” he lamented. Okay, I thought, but what can I put on the window that would allow more light but still maintain privacy?

The bottom half of white café curtains hung in another downstairs window so I removed it. After  washing and ironing, I hung the curtain in the bathroom window. The top half of the small window, complete with old-fashioned panes, now lets in brilliant sunshine yet the café curtain ensures privacy. It was a match made in heaven.

Okay, the next dilemma was what to put on the now curtainless window in front of the treadmill.  Remembering a square piece of some pretty intricate lace, probably meant for the top of a table, I got it out, tucked it around the curtain rod, and hung it. It makes a perfect “curtain” and couldn’t be prettier.

(By the way, you can click any photo to make it larger, to see more detail.)

While on the treadmill, the lacy window cover allows me to see out into the yard. It looks nice from outside the house, too. I love it!

So, the problem of providing curtains for two windows has been solved without a penny being spent. How cool is that?

Next time you are out thrifting, look for lace! You never know when you might need a curtain.

Thank you for your sweet visit, Susan. My last & best thrifty no cost design was curtains made from pillowcases. I put a 1/2" slit on each side of the fold, put a curtain rod in, WAH-LAH!!! Kitchen window curtains with lace trim.

Happy PS weekend ~

Hi Susan, I've used lacy table toppers as window covers in the bathroom and kitchen. Quite difficult to put up a rod and curtains in these concrete walls, so I just used some of those plastic hooks with sticky backing and then draped them up there. No cost except for the little hooks that I use for lots of things around here. The lace you found is absolutely gorgeous. Have a splendid day! :) Tammy

Hi Susan, Classic! You can never go wrong with white lace with light streaming through.

I wanted to say a huge thank you for your comment to my post "Angel Hugs". Cindy really appreciated it and so did I.

Sometimes it feels so good to know someone cares.

You my dear, are beautiful.

I like your window treatments, pretty and practical, couldn't be better! I also like your little blue birds. I have one just like them which I bought in Arkansas while on a holiday with my sister. The label described it as a Bluebird of Happiness, handmade in AR. Is that where yours originate from by any chance?

What a great solution. I have a thing for lace - stockpiling it for what(?) I don't know! I'm going to have a look at my windows and see if this would work anywhere here...
