Solace for a Winter's Day

Hello! Welcome! Today we are joining Show and Tell Friday on Cindy's sweet blog,

My Romantic Home. http://romantichome.blogspot.com/   Stop by her blog. You'll be in for a real treat in seeting so many fabulous posts from around the USA and other countries, too!

The first time I read about surrounding one's self with beautiful objects at home was in a book,  "Living a Beautiful Life," by one of my absolutely favorite authors, Alexandra Stoddard.

She's also an interior designer. Sitting on the shelves of my home library are probably more than 20 of her books.  They provide good reading and, to me, are inspirational.

Anyone who has ever read my blog knows that cranberry glass is one collection that brings me a lot of joy. The rich pink color of this beautiful glass appeals.

I've actually written several posts about cranberry glass. You can read about one here:  http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2010/04/collectible-cranberry-glass-for-cindys.html

Another one, if you are interested, can be found here:  http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2011/06/cranberry-glass-life-through-rose.html

If you are not totally cranberried out, there's another one here! http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2010/09/cranberry-glass-birthday-surprise.html

My mother started buying me pieces of cranberry glass for birthdays and other special occasions. It tends to be very expensive.  I had two small children when the collection began and couldn't afford it.

All through the years, the collection has grown. My mother died six years ago today (February 17) and of course, I still miss her with a deep ache in my heart.

But I can look at cranberry glass in our home and feel a sense of peace and happiness.  Seeing my cranberry glass collection makes me think of how my Mom wanted to make me happy with each new piece. God bless her sweet heart.

Mothers are so precious, aren't they?  My Mom would definitely spend her money,(and she never had a lot),  to buy something for someone else, but rarely anything for herself.

For quite a spell now, I 've wanted to put glass shelves on a big window in our living room. It hasn't happened.

So rather than keep all the pieces on library shelves, I decided to line the fireplace mantel, the top of the television cabinet, and the windowsills in the living room!

Alexandra was right, of course.  Our homes become our havens of happiness where we can relax and feel peaceful, surrounded by things we enjoy.  Glancing around our living room, and the lovely pink cranberry glass, I cannot help but think that Mummy would approve.

WHAT IS ONE THING IN YOUR HOME THAT MAKES YOU THINK OF YOUR MOM?

That cranberry is so very pretty all lined up on your mantel, and very effective grouped together rather than spread out all around the house. My mom has always been a very frugal person so never spent much money on herself or anyone. I guess I learned my frugal ways from her. Wishing you a fabulous Friday. Tammy

I love the cranberry glass throughout your home and the way you have displayed it! Such wonderful memories of your kind mom especially as you think of her today.

As I look around my home, I see many things that were once my moms. I am grateful for all of them. We are coming up on 7 years since my dad died and 6 months since my moms passing.

Your cranberry glass has found a lovely place to sit. Such a bright memory to sit with today in remembrance...

I can still hear Mom playing the piano and singing at the top of her lungs with her octave lower voice...that is the memory I'll have of her forever. When I go to play the piano and sing the "old" songs such as "All of Me" I know she'd approve. Rest in Peace. Music brings such joy to our lives because of her.

Beautiful collection and a beautiful mother, Susan. The things that represent a connection to our loved ones are so comforting. BTW, my mother passed over five years ago, and today would have been her 85th birthday! Blessings to you, Bess

Your collection is beautiful. I think of my mom whenever I look at or use my old Singer machine. She made so many of my clothes sitting there.
