Artsy Birds

Isn't it amazing how artists can create objects of beauty out of just about anything?

Once, in Central America, my husband I were driving near a coast. The people in that area were very poor but friendly and kind hearted. They were also very artistic.

Some of the people had carved birds out of natural materials. The birds' tails looked like some kind of tree bark or perhaps dried root.

Best part is the birds were for sale!

I picked out a mama bird and her baby.

The sweet pair has been with us for more than 35 years now and, except for a chipped beak on mama, they  haven't aged a bit.

When we moved cross country, the birdies came with us.

And 13 years later, when we returned to the east, they were carefully packed and transported, too.

Today, all these years later,  the little birds look out from the sill of a small window in our kitchen.

I put them down on the kitchen counter just to take these photos.

Can't you just about hear them tweet, tweet, tweeting?

WHAT WAS THE LAST UNIQUE ART PIECE YOU SAW?

I love those little birds. So unique. And so wonderful that someone used what nature provides to create them. Best wishes, Tammy

Lovely and such memories come with their delicate poses. I love how they've traveled with you and still remain part of your daily lives. It's how one hopes their art will effect buyers. Like a treasure they fall in love with...

I love these! And even more so with the wonderful story. Any piece of art is so much better with the story behind it. :) Kit

You have had them for a long time and transported them a long long way Susan. They are very nice pieces.

I think recently I have seen carvers make wonderful shapes of out trees. They can make a lot of wild things out of them - a piece a few feet high.

Love, sandie
