Old-Fashioned Electric Mixer Still Whirling Around

For quite awhile now,  a stationary electric mixer has been on my "want" list.

Checking the prices of new ones just about shivered my timbers. Wayyyyyyy too expensive for this gal's budget.

Now one of the most enjoyable things to do, for me, is to check the newspaper classified ads. It's so much fun to see what people have for sale.

When I read "Older model Sunbeam electric mixer," or something akin to that, I just about flipped.  I called the phone number in the ad and arranged to meet a lady in the post office parking lot of a neighboring town.

Driving there the next day felt decadent....like I was about to meet a stranger for undercover work....to solve the mystery of the missing old-fashioned mixer.

After parking my car, I got out and hung out in the post office lobby. I saw another car pull in but an old man got out. This secret meeting would require patience.

After three or four more cars came and went, another one pulled in and an older woman got out. She was the mixer owner, I was sure.

I went out and introduced myself and so did she. Then she headed back to her car, pulled the mixer from the back seat and showed it to me.

The mustard color was not particularly appealing but she assured me the mixer worked perfectly.

Sold for $25.00!

So now I have one item crossed off the want list and yes, it does, indeed, work just fine.

I've been using it this week, in between working assignments, to bake tons of  goodies for an upcoming baby shower.

It even has a funky little light that pops on near the beaters when you plug it in. Woo hoo

It's an oldie but goodie (like me) and I like it.

DO YOU READ NEWSPAPER CLASSIFIED ADS ON A DAILY BASIS?

Oh this made me smile, as I have had those "secret meetings" too and it really does feel quite detective like!!
Your mixer looks like the good kind, they don't make them like that anymore. Enjoy!

Smart buy. They are hard to come by.

Not so much the newspaper classifieds as a couple of facebook pages and Craigslist :)

I, too, have an old-timer mixer. Looks very much like yours--but no light! That really IS a deluxe model.

The old beater seems to be doing it's job. I'm glad you found one. Can't 'beat' that price either, lol. Have a nice day!

I love it! My Mom used to have one of those, so my sisters and I logged a lot of miles on it. And consumed many calories from the goodies it made. :)

I read the classifieds when our weekly paper comes out on Monday. I also check Craig's List and other sites sometimes.

Have a great weekend,
Karen

I have a hand mixer that my Dad gave me for an engagement gift over forty years ago. It works just fine. I don't even get a newspaper these days so can't read want ads. I'm SO HAPPY you got what you wished for at such a great price. You are a bargain hunter extrodinaire.

I think the older mixers are built better and last longer. Just like mowers - mine is 20 years old and runs like new. Can't beat it!

Ha! I can just seen you planning a secret meeting for the hand-off in a parking lot. Great buy! You have an old mixer and I do everything the old fashioned way ... by hand. :) Wishing you a great day. Tammy

Those old mixers are treasures! I have a cheap hand mixer that does the trick since I only bake birthday cakes now.

I used to have a mixer like that! Probably received it as a wedding shower gift. I know you will be making some very yummy treats from this baby!

What a treasure. WIth the internet, I didn't even think there was still a classified ad section around. What do I know?
Have fun with your new old appliance.
