Among the many collections around here, a favorite is a hodgepodge group of animals carved out of wood by African artisans.
There was a post on them a couple of years ago. If interested, you can read it here.
After the animals left the mantel, they were packed in a box and brought up to the attic. Now, they are back on display!
I like to rearrange collections and place them in different places all over the house.
The mini stampede now adorns the front hall table "safari style."
A little furniture polish and a quick rubdown with a paper towel brought back a sheen to the animals.
One can almost hear the stomping of elephant feet as the mama elephant and her babes march along the wooden table.
Of course, the animals will eventually move on, to make way for Halloween decor in October.
I like to think about the artisans who carved this lovely set of animals. Were they members of a family? Teenagers? Smaller children?
Did they feel badly to give up their creations after working so hard on them to make them look so real?
The tribesmen who watch over the herd came from yard sales. They are faithful guardians of the animals.
Until the animals get packed away again, they will bring smiles to everyone who sees them.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHERE TO DISPLAY COLLECTIONS?

I have a very small collection of music boxes on a glass table in my living room. I really am NOT a collector at all...I think all your collections are great and I'm sure you get such joy from them.
I enjoyed seeing your carved African animals and reading about them. I have a small collection (2 elephants and one lion) that I brought back with me from a trip to Kenya. I don't think the artists are sad about parting with them at all. They need to make a lot to earn a small living for their families so they are very happy when they can sell them and send them off to appreciative homes around the world.
That's a lovely collection you have there, and beautifully displayed to. I don't have much of a collection right now, but use to collect angels and had them displayed here and there in the house.
Have a great day!
Aww that mama and baby elephnat are my favorite. You should do interior design for a living.
Love the wooden animals. Your attic must be a wonderful place to visit!!!
My collections are all over the place and nothing ever gets switched out. I have wooden animals just like yours. :) Wishing you a lovely day. Tammy
What an amazing collection, Susan! They are just beautiful!
I suppose I have no problem covering any flat surface available with my "collections.":) Of course, any china or glass pieces are visible in the cabinet, the baskets are scattered all around the house, and the special holiday things are stored away until time for the appropriate holiday. You seem to have the perfect spot to display your collections!

Hello Susan
Thanks for visiting my blog, always nice to find another with things in common.
Your collection is interesting and I peeked at the previous post and am thinking it's time to dig out the autumn decor too.

Your collection is great;I live in Turkey and I saw some African boys in my country whose sold that kinds of wooden animals :)
I select a place that is highly visible but keeps the collection safe.
Giraffes and elephants. These are two of my favorite animals.
You have such interesting taste...perhaps you can customize a special shelf someplace in your home.It is much to nice of a collection not to be displayed.
What a neat collection, Susan. I love large groupings of interesting and natural items. Yours is great. I display things all over my house. No surface is off limits. But I love my built-in shelves in my living room best. I change them out seasonally, if not more frequently. Thanks for visiting Cottage and Creek. I appreciate it :)
