Linda, on her blog, Lady Linda, recently had a post on a charming book, "First Poems of Childhood," illustrated by the ever popular late Vermont illustrator, Tasha Tudor.
I loved the poems in it so ordered a copy from eBay for less than $6, including postage!
Don't you just love it when you find a book filled with poetry or stories that you enjoy to the core of your being?
The paperback was published in 1967 by Platt & Munk, Publishers, of New York.
There's a poem titled "Pussy Willow" by Kate L. Brown that I would like to share with you.
It's so appropriate since we are now into the fifth day of spring and pussy willows are harbingers of that delightful season.
Pussy Willow
By Kate L. Brown
Pussy Willow wakened
From her winter nap,
For the frolic spring breeze
On her door would tap.
"It is chilly weather
Though the sun feels good.
I will wrap up warmly,
wear my furry hood."
Mistress Pussy Willow
Opened wide her her door.
Never had the sunshine
Seemed so bright before.
Never had the brooklet
Seemed so full of cheer;
"Good morning Pussy Willow
Welcome to you dear."
Never guest was quainter;
Pussy came to town
In a hood of silver gray
And a coat of brown.
Happy little children
Cried with laugh and shout,
"Spring is coming, coming,
Pussy Willow's out."
ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH PUSSY WILLOWS?

I am familiar with them because they grew wild where I grew up - it must have been in the Chicago area - can that be right - seems they should grow in the warmth.
Hello from Spain: I also follow Linda's blog. She is very cute too. I really like this poem dedicated to spring. Keep in touch
Surely there are some pussy willows near me somewhere but I never see them. I do love them in pictures though. Yours and the poem were great this morning. Happy Weekend.
I was not familiar with the poem so thanks for sharing. I love pussy willows and always have since childhood. They do not grow where I live now.
Susan this poem is very nice. I like it.
Someone in my childhood had a pussy willow growing in their garden but that was a long time ago.
Merle.........
Precious poem.
Yes, I remember and associate pussy willows, with childhood memories.
Ahhhh, illustrations by Tasha Tudor. She did such lovely work. And had such an interesting life... Living just as she chose to live.
Oh and I like the soft pink background here!!! So soft and pretty and spring-like.
Lovely poem takes me back to my first year of teaching when my mentor brought in a branch of pussy willow and the children fawned over it. Great memory. Thanks, Susan.
I had two magnificent Pussy Willow shrubs at our home in Connecticut; you've made me yearn to plant them again when I finally get to put my gardens in the new house, XOXO
