"Refurbished" Heirloom Hutch

This summer there have been almost no changes on our enclosed side porch.

My late Grandmother's hutch continues to be a focal point of  this sweet space.

Every time it's seen, it brings me comfort and a sense of happiness that I reclaimed and refurbished it.

It's not because it's a pretty piece of furniture, although it is. It's because it was my Grandma's and I know how much she loved it.

Now, it's my turn!

If interested, you can read about the hutch's  transformation here.

I just love having this heirloom as part of my life and am deeply grateful.

WHAT IS ONE HEIRLOOM YOU HAVE THAT YOU ABSOLUTELY LOVE?

  1. I don't have any heirlooms. I moved out of state soon after I was married and lived too far to obtain any kind of furniture or heirlooms from anybody. I remember that hutch though.

  4. A tiny oil can only worth about $4 and a tiny pair of pliers. The oil can my dad used to oil my bike; the pliers pulled our baby teeth. I hold them and feel his hands.

  5. How beautiful, my friend, and how special to have such a sweet piece of furniture.

I have my great-great-grandmothers hope chest :) My great-great-grandmother passed it down to my great-grandmother who passed it down to my mom and when I got married my mom passed it down to me.

    Hugs to you!

  6. What a beautiful piece. I have a curio cabinet of my mother and it is holding all her pieces - and I look at it every day!

  9. Your Grandmother's hutch is very special, Susan. What a treasure, indeed. And I assume you painted it? It looks great. My husband gave me a hutch that I'll never part with - it was made in Italy, and I've had it for many years. It brings me smiles as well.

To answer your question, I would say that anything that belonged to my mother is really beloved to me.

    love, ~Sheri

  10. I love the transformation from wood to white! I have my mom's beloved china hutch now. It has glass doors and most of what I put in there were her pieces of china, vases and cut glass. I cherish it all. I also have a hutch similar to yours that was my sister's.. she gave it to me about 35 years ago. it's dark wood and has dings in it but my hope is to paint it white also.. I love white furniture. I have some milk glass glasses that my grandmother gave me about 50 years ago.. and also some frosted glasses with horses on them. I believe they belonged to HER mother! I cherish those also.. plus many other small items that belonged to my mother and father. I also treasure a little "saddle shoe purse" that belonged to my mom when she was a teenager!

  11. This is truly Beautiful and oh, so special.
I have a small hutch that belonged to my late mother from the 1940's. It is just the right size for her china, crystal and silver.

  12. It is difficult to choose only one as I have several pieces from my grandmother, as well as from Mother. I believe in passing things down through the family.
