Labor-Intensive Cheese Braid

Every Easter, for far too many years to remember, cheese braid has been a part of our holiday meals.

The origin of the recipe is unsure, although my memory vaguely recalls that it came from a very old issue of what was called Sunset Magazine.

It's a really delicious bread that never, ever fails to get rave reviews.

The filling, which is a creamy, yummy mixture of cream cheese, cottage cheese, lemon peel, raisins, and confectionery sugar, is especially good.

However, when anyone asks me for the recipe, I am sure to tell them that it is not particularly easy to make.

It requires three risings.  This year, when I started the process of making four of these beauties, it was morning.

By the time they were all kneaded, put together, risen, baked, and finished, it was suppertime.

Three of them were gifts, including one to where we ate Easter dinner, and one was left for our house.

It was gone lickety split!

Now that Easter is over, it's back to watching the carbs and moving more, right?

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE BREAD?

Hi Susan, This is a very unique sounding recipe and I am sure I would love it. How kind of you to make 3 as gifts. I bet a slice of this is delicious with coffee or tea. Have a pleasant night.

Wow,that bread looks wondeful! My husband has celiac disease and must be gluten free. I can make some decent breads but let me tell you, there is nothing like wheat. I can eat any bread and you think I would love any bread, but I am really picky!!😊

I guess my favorite bread is raisin bread. I love a piece of that toasted with my tea in the morning. Your bread must have been a big hit with everyone.

Oh my gosh, the braided cheese bread looks wonderful, Susan! Love all the ingredients, and I love bread in general. I bet it tasted great warm out of the oven. What a nice Easter tradition to make this bread and to give as gifts. Oh, I wish I had a piece right now. ; )

love, ~Sheri
