Manger Scene Memories

An unplanned collection of manger scenes, or nativity sets as some people call them, decorates some of the shelves in my late Mom's lighted curio cabinet.

Each set is usually wrapped in tissue paper and during the year is stored in boxes up in the attic.

It's such a joy to unwrap them and see them once again.

It's fun to try and recollect where they were found and purchased.

A couple sets came from stores in Mexico.

We used to zip over the border all the time when we lived in Arizona.

One is crudely fashioned  from cut-out pieces of tin that have been brightly painted in wonderful colors.

I often wondered if a child created such loveliness.

A cousin gave me the Native American set.

I think it's quite beautiful in its simplicity.

Some sets are quite small, carved from wood, and are from the Holy Land, itself. (These are not shown in today's photos.)

This unplanned, rag tag collection of manger scenes helps remind me of the true meaning of Christmas.

One of my former students grandfather carved a couple nativity sets and I was gifted with one of them. It's small but quite unique.

I'm so glad to see your Mom's cabinet from the front. It's lovely, Susan. And you can see all the treasures in there all lit up. I like how you draped it with greenery. I can see that these Nativity sets have special meaning to you. I only have one Nativity set, but the Holy Family is dressed in fabric with jewels, it's beautiful. I look forward to seeing your Nativity set from the Holy Land.

Each is special. I bought a small plastic one for the great grandsons to be able to touch and play with.
