Birdie Update

Remember how we discovered a birds' nest inside the wreath on the back porch?

And how there were five beautiful, white eggs inside the nest?

Well, the babes were born.

There has been a lot of activity lately.

Mommy bird has been busy flying in and out of the nest, no doubt providing the babes with sustenance.

When the human grands came over recently, I gently lifted the wreath off the porch wall to show them the birdies.

One feisty little fluffernutter immediately hoisted himself out of the nest, off the porch, and landed under a patio chair.

I was frantic that a cat or other animal would gobble him up as a snack.

My son-in-law and young granddaughter came to the rescue, with washcloths in their hands.

The little peepster cannot fly yet but, oh boy, he can run as fast as the dickens.

They finally captured the tiny bird on the other side of the yard and gently placed him, via washcloth, back to the nest.

From now on, the wreath is staying put.  We almost lost that little fella.

WHAT, IF ANYTHING, DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WILD BIRDS?

We have a bird feeder in front of our house and I love sitting outside and watching them come to feed, and chasing away the grackles!

Glad you rescued that little birdie from death. Soon they will all be flying away on their own. Isn't it fun to watch them? I have monarch butterflies in my back yard these days and I love to see them.

aaahhh, those little birds are so fortunate to have you look after them, Susan. So glad that the little guy didn't get away. I bet that was fascinating for your granddaughter to see. Children love learning about nature, and she got to see it first hand.

What do I love about birds? I was just telling another blog friend how special they are to me. I love to hear their call and see them come around
right in my front yard. I'm seeing more now that Spring has arrived here in the mountains.

Happy month of May, Susan.

We had to rescue a little one one spring. It fellinto a fenced part of the garden and could not fly yet. It was so tiny. Although it appeared to be alone, the mother was always nearby.
