Letting Go

One of the hardest things to do as we age is the ability of letting go.

We have to let go of so much, even though it may squeeze our hearts.

We have to let go of friends and loved ones who leave this earth.

We have to let go of spouses who we've spent half our lives with.

Yes, it's true, we also have to let go of expectations.

Some things we want will never be.

Right now, I'm in the process of letting go of many Christmas decorations since the place in which I now live is small.

I used to have a big house and it's now just a memory.

It's hard to let go but it can be good, too.

We realize how little is needed to be happy, to feel joy, despite all the losses.

If we've lost loved ones, we can realize how blessed we were to have them for the time they were part of our lives.

This little angel is one thing I am NOT letting go of!  I just got her at Christmas!

The back seat of my car is now filled with bags of Christmas decor ready to be dropped off at Goodwill.

It was so hard to haul those out, too, but it's done-----one more thing to just let go of.

DO YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY IN LETTING GO OR IS IT JUST NATURAL FOR YOU?

I haven’t had to let go of my house yet. I dread the day I have to though. Glad you got some things sorted and off to good will.

Well, I guess it depends on what I have to let go of. With home decor, it's pretty easy to let go, and I always treat myself with something when I do. I have to give you credit of having those bags filled and ready to drop off at the thrift store, Susan. I only have one that I'm working on and will drop off tomorrow. I love your Santa cup with the glasses - he's unique and have never seen one with glasses. He's a keeper. And your gold reindeer in the window are gorgeous. As far as letting go of other things, it's all in God's Hands, and that's the best place for them to be.

I'm very sentimental and it's always hard to let go of possessions that tell my story or my family's journey. But I persevere. I totally get how you are feeling.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I used to collect stuff years ago, upon relocating to Saudi I had to start living on the light side. Dividing time each year between countries on opposite ends of the earth, I'm limited on things that fit in storage in either country.
