One of the most fun parts of the Christmas season around here is making gingerbread houses from scratch. Years ago, a friend gave the book "A Family Raised on Rainbows" (copyright 1979) and it has a recipe and instructions for a fairly easy-to-do gingerbread house The "cement" to hold it together is royal icing, also found in the book.

Throughout the decades, dozens of houses peaked creativity at our house. A huge variety of candies of all shapes, sizes, and colors can be found in bags in any well-stocked Dollar store, such as Family Dollar and Dollar Tree.
So if you'd like to bring some spicy sweetness to your life this holiday, make a gingerbread house!
