Home Is Where The Heart Is

What does home mean to you?

There are probably as many answers to that as there are people on the planet earth. It's a good question to ponder, though.

For me, home is a place where there is love. Having come from a two parent family with four siblings, I've never known life without love. What a great blessing that is. Working with many different kinds of people, the realization has been made that not everyone comes from a home where they were cherished, just because they were alive. I am humbled and grateful.

Home is a place where it's possible to be exactly who I am at all times. No matter if I'm having a lousy day, my husband will still love me. If tired, taking a nap in a warm and comfortable bed is very possible. If sick, home is where rest and care can be found.

Home is a place where I am surrounded by all the beautiful material possessions that have come my way, some as gifts or as treasures found in boutiques, thrift stores, estate and yard sales. It's a place that houses many collections: birds, books, cranberry glass, dolls, jewelry, miniatures, pitchers, and wooden Santas, to name just a few. (Okay, okay, admittedly, I have a tendency toward compulsiveness.)

Home is a place where I can have a good cry or a good laugh and not worry about someone judging me. It's a safe haven.

Home is where I can entertain with ease, welcoming my grown up children and their partners. It's a place to decorate for every single holiday that comes along.

Home is where delicious meals can be made and eaten with loved ones. It's where Honey Cat lives. She's the grandmother cat who has been with us for 15 years now. She is part of my grown up children's childhood.

Home is where the computer is and where the discovery of blog land was made. It's where I love spending hours meeting new people, reading their comments under posts, and visiting their blogs.

Home is where I can get on my knees and thank God for life, itself.

The Home Sweet Home sign shown in the photo above is a piece of stained glass that hangs in our pantry window and I bought it at a yard sale. It says it all.

WHAT IS HOME TO YOU?

Let me just say - you are blessed if home means all that to you and always has.

Not so for many others I know and can't say I felt that growing up.

That is probably one reason I am such a fighter myself for the right to be treated right. (you think?)

Okay, now what home means to me - and I heard this quote some where -

"Breathe, you're home now." Cool huh?

I had the words printed up and it's on my wall for us all to see.

Love,
Sandie

Oh that is a beautiful piece...and so was your writing about home! I agree with all of your sweet sentiments...you speak from the heart!!! you really do!

Home is my 'safe' place, where I can shut out the world and find myself. I am secure, comfortable...protected. It is where I am with my husband and family, where we laugh, eat, play, cry, live!

It's my humble abode, and I love it! But then again, I am a homebody!!! lol

ciao bella

I really loved your list. Especially about home is where you can be sick and feel taken care of--something like that! That's my version as I am sick in bed now and oh to be home when you are.

Home means to me is all my family gathered around me, which happens rarely because they all live in different states.
It seems so empty with just me and my husband. I don't know if I will ever get use to just two people in the home. The first year the last child moved out, I was so excited I had freedom. But when the emptiness set in it hit me hard. I guess after saying all that .........Home is family to me.

Hi Susan! Beautiful thoughts and beautiful stained glass. I have 2 plaques that hang above my front door. One says: "Home is where your story begins" and the other "Home: Your soft place to fall"

Many thanks to LINDA, DIANE, TERRI, SUSAN AND BECKY for visiting and commenting! It makes me so happy to see that you have all stopped by.

Hi Linda: Loved your description of home.

Hello Di: Your favorite saying about home is the title of today's post. See it above the piece of stained glass?

Hi Terri: SO sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope it passes soon. Also hope the new job is going well. It is so gratifying to work with elderly.

Hello Susan: I know what you mean about missing children once they are grown up and gone. It's an ache in a mother's heart that never really goes away. But we know we have done our jobs well if they are independent.

Hi Becky: Love that saying "Home: Your soft place to fall."

To me, home is where everyone is accepted and loved for who they are, and where everyone respects the feelings of each other. My home is that wonderful place. I'm glad yours is too.

Hi Susan, just read back through all your March posts. Yes, all of them. Thanks so much for visiting my corner of the world. I so enjoyed your gratitude post. In fact, everything you share is quite easy to read, interesting and enjoyable. Love the cobalt blue vases with daffodils. I collect blue for my kitchen, too. Like you, I collect many things. Trying to curb that desire. Home to be is the best place to be. I much prefer to be here and could stay in pajamas piddling 24-7, but that's not allowed as there is school and work and baseball, etc. Although Kuwait is not "home", it's where I've lived for the past 15 years. I wrote about how I wound up in Kuwait on October 20th of last year for our 15th wedding anniversary. If you'd like, you could check back through my archives and check it out. Hope you are having a most wonderful day. Many blessings, Tammy

Hello Tammy! Oh, thanks for the nice, newsy note. I'll definitely check out your post on how you got to Kuwait. Oh, I'm so happy you read all of the March posts! That makes me feel soooooo good. It's nice to know people are interested in what one writes. It's still morning, Tammy, but you've already made my day! Hope yours is good, too. Sincerely, Susan
