Have you ever yearned to have lived in another era?
I am drawn to the Victorian age. The fashions, interior decorating, and aura of that time have great appeal.
Looking at an antiques catalogue, I clipped the kind of lamp I would love. It was cranberry, to match the pink fireplace and the rest of the pink decor, and it had sparkling prisms. The price tag told me the lamp would have to remain in a magazine clipping. E-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e.
Then, one day last fall, intuition told me to go to a particular estate sale advertised in the local newspaper. I walked through the door of the deceased owner's home, looked up , and almost keeled over myself. There hung the lamp I wanted, almost identical to the one in the magazine clipping.
The cranberry section was crackle style. With its dangling prisms and low overhead lighting, the lamp merited drop dead gorgeous status.
The cost, after a bit of haggling, turned out to be a mere fraction of the price asked for the lamp in the catalogue.
The crackle cranberry glass lamp now casts a rosy spell on our rather Victorian living room.
Furniture, lamps, rug, and so on were all either thrifted or purchased at yard or estate sales. The old-fashioned lamp remains the best find of all.
DO YOU LIKE VICTORIAN DECOR OR DO YOU PREFER MORE MODERN?

I love your lamp! It is truly beautiful. I am not Victorian in style at all. Much more modern, shabby chic kind of person. Your home is beautiful!
Great find! It's beautiful! I like modern with an Asian twist.
I love crackle glass, and I like some elements of Victorian design and style. Not sure what my style is, for it is not modern, either. Thanks for sharing!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Karen
I LOVE Victorian decor... and I do have some antiques that would look divine... My husband and I were married in a Victorian home and when he was in New York, he owned and restored one. Most of my furniture, however, is 40s, 50s and contemporary. I have several mid century modern pieces and do love that style as well. It's a bit more minimalist and easier to keep clean.
I love the lamp and I love Victorian style! :)

I totally love the victorian age--have you seen the Young Victoria yet? Just loved it...especially the actor that played Albert.
I would like to have lived in around 1790-1860....
Beautiful lamp!

Have a great Friday.
Entering my daughter's house is like walking into the Victorian Era. I prefer Early American or traditioanl but not modern. My home feels comfy.
Susan, you find the best buys!
wow! very unique and pretty!
I'm modern all the way...but I know YOU love Victorian things. I like to read about that era.
Okay if I have to be honest, and I do - I prefer more modern. Although the pictures you put on your blog - I love becaue I'm learning about them - and because I know you love them so. And then I find out more about you.

Susan: I don't know why, but your comment brought tears to my eyes this afternoon. I think it was the sweetest thing. Here I am a perfect stranger to you and you reach out to me. I am going to cry again. Thank you for your prayers. You are so special to me. By the way, I really, really, really love your lamp! Happy Pink! Hugs, Martha
Hi Girls! Love, love, loved all your visits and comments. Thanks so much for taking time out of your very busy lives to come by. I sooooooo enjoyed reading all of your comments. Happy Saturday and I look forward to many more visits from each of you in the near future. Peace. Susan
Hi Susan! Hey, I love the new look of your blog! Love the top "banner" or "header"...whatever is the proper name!! Beautiful lamp, too. My style of decorating is more: "comfy, shabby chic, semi-traditional". Does that make any sense?! And as far as living in the wrong era, I've always said I should've been a young adult in the 1940's. Love the music and clothing styles, etc! BUT, we all have to remember....There were no BLOGS back then! :D
I love your lamp, I have a real weakness for cranberry glass. I guess I'm more FC-traditional in decor but love Victorian things. I just bought a Victorian era creamer and sugar bowl that you would love. Cranberry, pink and green. Love the lamp!
That is a beautiful lamp! I love that picture. I do love all things Victorian.
