Excursion to Cape Cod

There's something about the ocean that is incredibly calming. Whenever stress starts to wear me down, I can always find peace near the water.

Recently, my husband and I had a two-day adventure discovering a new place, namely, South Yarmouth, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod. This was a perfect time of year to go because there were not many tourists. We even walked along nearly deserted, soft sand beaches and picked up seashells!

We took a harbor cruise in Hyannis and saw, from a distance, the Kennedy Family Compound,         including the house where the late JFK lived. It was chilly on the 1911 coastal steamer boat,              "Prudence," and I wished I had worn something a little bit warmer.

Two brothers, Richard and Robert Scudder, founded Hyannis Harbor Tours, Inc. in 1962 As a family business, the sightseeing tours have been very successful and brought a great deal of enjoyment to our own Cape Cod adventure!

At one point, when I looked out of the back of the boat, the only thought that came into my head was  that I did not want to be "woman overboard."

In South Yarmouth there are dozens of places to eat a delicious lobster dinner and so many shops that    it made our heads spin. Luckily, there were also a ton of consignment and thrift stores with                  fabulous items priced right!

At The Lobster Boat Restaurant, the necessary rooms had cute, seaside signs above the doors that read "Buoys and Gulls." I got a chuckle out of those!  We had breakfast at the Good Morning Cafe. How could anyone start their day off badly with a name like that?  I had a very tasty two-egg omelet that contained tomatoes, spinach, cheddar cheese, and pieces of bacon!  Yummy.

As we came back to the harbor, all the docked boats looked picturesque in the afternoon sun.

These bright purple flowers made a stunning border but I forgot to ask the name of
them.

Does anyone out there know what they are?  Someone said they might be bluebells, but I'm not sure.

Well, that's a short tour of our visit to Cape. Hope you hopped on board with us for the tour!

My sister and I recently took our annual sister trip. This year we went to San Antonio, Texas. What a wonderful place for a vacation. We love history so we visited Spanish missions, The Alamo and lots of other attractions. We had such a wonderful time - I highly recommend it.

I adore Cape Cod. I lived there back in the 70's! I enjoyed your tour. I think the flowers are called Grape Hyacinth. Beautiful! One of my favorite vacation locations is Sanibel Island, FL
Such a beautiful place, lots of shells and a wild life sanctuary! Cute shops, thrift stores and fun places to eat.

The flowers are grape hyacinth. It's a bulb and they spread like crazy. Mine are all in full bloom. If you pick one and take a really close look at the inside of the little flowers, you will be amazed at how beautiful they are...

Beautiful pictures. Thanks

(This is my 3rd attempt to leave a message. Don't know what is happening).

Thanks for showing us your great adventure - I have to live a lot of places through others - this is one place I'd love to see in person.

Your pictures are great as usual.

I went to Alaska last summer. It was a trip of a lifetime.

Lovely tour! Thank you very much... The flowers are Muscari - Grape Hyacinth I think.

Hi Everybody! Thanks for the information on the grape hyacinths! Now I know. Thanks, too, for your comments and, most of all, thanks for YOU! Each and every one of you! Sincerely, Susan

I would love to visit Cape Cod. I love to read novels set in New England. Maybe one of these days I'll make it over the pond. Thanks for taking us on your trip with you!
