When we bought this old house several years ago, I loved the decorative woodwork around each doorway, the fairly large rooms, the crystal doorknobs (that I've since discovered are very pricey to buy), high ceilings, and pink fireplace.
When entering the dining room, a really crummy looking brass "chandelier" hung from the ceiling. Not only was it ugly, it was crooked.
"Oh boy, " I thought. "That's going to have to go eventually." With all the expenses acquiring a house entailed, it was not a top of the list priority.
After a couple of years, however, every time I looked at the old crooked chandelier, my heart hung heavy.
Finally, I started the delightful task of looking for a replacement. Now I have always loved "fru fru "
chandeliers because I tend to have interior decorating tastes from the Victorian era. Everything (well, almost everything) the Victorians used to decorate smacked of elegance, exquisite surroundings, and class.
Walking into Home Depot, I marched to the lighting department and almost flipped. There, hanging from the makeshift display ceiling, was the most gorgeous chandelier imaginable. It was love at first "light."
Best of all, the price was not over-the-top! We bought it on the spot.

Of course, it came dis-assembled. The sparkling pendants came completely wrapped in a spongy material and then paper. Somebody in China must have spent a LOT of time wrapping this baby.
My handy husband (God bless that man) got to work assembling the chandelier and trust me, it took him a long time to put it together.
It's got glass covered wavy brass candle holders, decor that looks like mini water fountains spouting into the air, and, of course, countless glass baubles and pendants. Very regal, it could definitely be a chandelier worthy of royalty.
When finally hung, my husband also added a dimmer switch so after dinner, the lights can be turned way down low to make an elegant, peaceful atmosphere.
Now I no longer have to look at a crooked, brass dinosaur light in the dining room. The chandelier makes me feel like I'm dining with the Queen of England!
Hmmmmm, wouldn't it be great to have a dazzling chandelier in the hallway, too? Come to think of it, one would add a lot to a bedroom. Uh oh. Better quit while I'm ahead.

That chandelier is just stunning! A work of art. Looks beautiful in your home! I've been looking for one for awhile. Do you mind me asking which Home Depot you got it at? The one near where I live doesn't have anything like it. I'm in love with yours! I'm a new follower to your blog.
I love that!!!
Your chandelier is beautiful.
I have a gorgeous chandelier - it was my mothers. She loved nice things too. I'll have to take a picture.

Oh WOW!! That is one drop-dead GORGEOUS Chandelier, and from Home Depot!! I love it!!
I think there should be a chandelier in every room of ones home!! :)
So beautiful!! I think a small chandelier in the bath would be nice. I was wondering,...does your husband have a brother? My electrician man is off at his friends farm doing stuff for him so I need someone to do stuff here.
I think I am more of a simple lighting girl in the dining room. I love the antique chandeliers. I also like "fru fru"!
Gorgeous chandelier! I love those sparkly chandys just dripping with pendants! I too have a ugly dining room chandelier that needs to be replaced....I'd love to have one like this!
Just beautiful girl...and I love Chandy's even in bathrooms as they are so elegant and victorian looking ...hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
I wish I had a beautiful chandelier like yours! We still have ceiling fans through-out our home. You must have a wonderful husband to be so patient! marcia

Oh, Susan, it's GORGEOUS. Fit for Queen Susan!
WOWIE KAZOWIE!
The work that your man out into this surely paid off!
I have several different chandeliers in my home, mine are more simple.
A fancy chandy in this house would be well, weird.
maybe in a cottage, my someday cottage :)
I loved seeing yours, though, it is wonderful, like YOU!
Hugs, and God save the Queen!
That's gorgeous, and Home Depot? Who woulda thunk!!! We had a chandelier in a house we rented years ago and I loved it but hated cleaning it:(
Oh, I'm without a doubt a chandelier woman. I LOVE yours. It is what I would like in mine some day. I am a current victim of the ugly brass, which I intend to at least update while I wait for one like yours.
Lovely!
That is awesome! It looks perfect in your dining room. I like chandys but, this is an all male house, except for me, and I have tended to go a bit more Pottery Barn for their home not to be too fou-foued. But, I look at chady's online! Secret guilty pleasure. In fact; I have a giveaway going on at my blog, CSN is offering a $50 gift certificate. I went to their sites (over 200 of them) and I found a $65 chandy! Can you believe it. So with that gift certificate you could get one in your hall.
I was amazed they started out so affordable!

Ah, so the old saying - "anything worthwhile is worth waiting for" certainly holds true, yes? This must certainly make you feel like a princess eating in your castle!!! The chandelier is beautifully over the top!!!!
Simple lighting or chandelier??? CHANDELIER!!!! without a doubt!!!!
Exquisite and so sparkly! thanks for sharing:)
Absolutely gorgeous. I am so envious!
Chandeliers, what would life be without them!
Machelle
I adore chandys and yours is so sparkly. Love it.

Hi Susan! It just depends on the decor of the dining room....if the shoe (uh, chandelier!) fits, then I say, Yes!
I am trying to looking for a house which have a great dining room, once I saw a beautiful house through costa rica homes for sale
I think those houses are very wonderful. I am really interested now because they are very wide and beautiful.
Oh, this is gorgeous Susan! The price is much better than what I was viewing before. I just don't know if my hubby could put it together and hang it. When we had a ceiling fan put up in last house, we had to hire somebody to install it. My husband's father was an electrician, but my hubby (bless his heart) can't do a whole lot around a house. He can clean the furnace filter and replace a doorknob!! But, he's a keeper in many more important ways!
thanks for directing me here.
hugs
ANDREA
