Flash Thunderstorm! Crash, Boom, Torrents, Calm!

The sun shone brightly outside as I headed down to the man cave to check my blog. Any spare second that comes along makes me want to run to the computer to see if anyone left a comment or, joy of joys, chose to become a Follower. (Are you like that, too?)

After all, it's only been eight months since I discovered blogland and it's still wonderfully new to me. It's an exciting place to be.

Twenty minutes sped by and I headed back upstairs.  Glancing out the kitchen window, I was shocked to see the sun had disappeared. Blue skies dotted with mounds of white clouds were long gone, too.  They had been replaced by dark skies and black-rimmed clouds.  Rain came down fast and furious, ripping through the air and pelting the windows of the house.

Trees looked like they were going to keel over as a wild wind whipped through their branches.  Within a very short time, the flash storm was over. Cautiously, I stepped out onto the back porch.  The wet air felt cool.

The sun burst through a light gray sky and illuminated rain drops on pine tree branches.

If all of life's problems could end as quickly as the flash storm, it'd be great. The newly washed world looked fresh and inviting. The rain drops shimmering on the tree were dazzling.

It felt good to be alive.

WHAT GIVES YOU AN APPRECIATION FOR LIFE?

What a beautiful post! I love the storms and the fresh smell after. This morning drinking coffee on the screened porch, watching the birds and seeing all the flowers made me very thankful for my home and all I have around me. Oh and yes I also can't wait to see who left a comment and if I've made new friends! I love blogging and one of the reasons is you! :)

Once again, one of your blog friends (Linda, above) has said pretty much word for word what I would say!! :)

Beautiful post... What gives me an appreciation for life? My children and grandchildren, seeing my scars from a motorcycle wreck, seeing my husbands scars from cancer surgery, waking up each morning knowing that I have a good job to support us and coming home to the love of my husband.

This is my first visit to your blog (not sure which blog I found it through). Anyhow, I know how wonderful blogging can be and how wonderful it is to "make new friends."

Back in spring 2006, I began blogging, and I was hooked from day one. It actually ended up becoming an addiction, and as a result, about a year later (May 2007), I felt the need to disengage. I missed it so and started up again in early 2008...and after about a year (last February), I had to back away again. Now, I'm back again...I simply LOVE blogging, and I've met some really sweet gals through this great big blog world. So, I'm right there with ya.

All I have to do is watch the nightly news to give me an appreciation for life and family. So many people the world over barely have enough food for the day, or they have no religious or political freedom. I am abundantly blessed.

Blessings,
Patti (Of Days and Dreams)

Answer: Certainly events like that one you experienced. After the ash from the volcano, Tropical Storm Agatha and the hole downtown Guatemala City, all of them within a week, one can't help but have a different perspective of life, and be thankful that among all the destruction, one is among the lucky ones. The sun has come out almost every day after the devastating weekend, which has enable the recovery and cleaning jobs around the country, but still in our hearts and minds is the thought and possibility of more episodes like those in the months to come. When thinking that, we are hopeful that they will come and be gone in a blink, with little or no damage.
