Honey Cat: She's One Honey of a Cat!

Today news came from a friend that she lost three of her beloved pets this month.

First, her two "elderly" cats had to be put to sleep. The whole family went into mourning.  Now, their dog, only eight years old, became very ill and also had to be put down. My friend is deeply sad. There is nothing I can do but share in her tears.

Our pets become members of the family. They are so much more than just cats and dogs. They become a part of the humans in the house. Their habits and routines become ingrained in our daily schedules. We listen for their footsteps, hear their meowing or barking, and feel happy when they are safe and secure in the house at bedtime.

There is no way thoughts of my own cat's eventual demise can come into my head without my getting very upset. She's 15 years old and we've had her since she was a small ball of caramel colored fur in the palms of our hands.

She's from the desert of Arizona where she survived a brutal snake bite;  took a cross country airplane ride in a screened-in satchel (underneath my plane seat) to her new home in the east;  has adjusted to life from oven to freezer temps in the winter;  grew up with our own kids who are long since adults; most recently got into it with a skunk and it took weeks to return to her natural sweet smell; and  she just keeps going, going, going like a certain battery!

The photos of  Honey Cat shown above were taken today. On a gorgeous New England afternoon, the last of July, she found the most comfy spot on the porch. This cat absolutely adores comfort.

Someday, no doubt, we will lose her. Perish that thought. Tonight, when she nuzzled up to me for a scratch under her chin, I was even more happy than usual to give it.  She fills my heart to the very brim with love and asks for so little---a bite of tuna for breakfast and dinner.  She's still alive and as feisty as a grandmother cat can be.

To my dear friend, my heart goes out to her. May her sweet pets rest in peace.

I have lost several pets. My childhood cat my parents had to put to sleep and I cried when they called me on the other side of the country! A few have been just 'lost' and one hit by a car, my daughters pet and we had a funeral. My dear Charlie is the cat of my middle years and my dearest friend. I will mourn him more then the others I know, he has become such a part of my life and my heart! I am sad for your friend. My Charlie is only 11 so I'm hoping for several more years! He just came up and nuzzled me for a head scratch...must go now, he needs attention and I am grateful to be able to give it to him.

Hi Susan - my heart so goes out to your friend and I lift her up in prayer. I can totally empathize with her. I've lost three dogs and seven cats over the years to age and various illnesses. It was terribly painfully heartbreaking and life seemed to stop for me each time I lost one. I can't even imagine losing three at one time.

The void they left in my life was credible and touchable. They were my life and my soul. But as I reminisce today, I know that they are all at The Rainbow Bridge waiting for the day when I arrive in heaven and search for them there. And until then, I will love and cherish the two dogs and three cats that own me now, and I thank God for blessing me with them all. :)

I would love my name being included in your giveaway. Thank you for hosting it, friend!

Hi Susan. Tiger is only my 2nd pet! I didn't have any until my 2nd marriage. Our first dog, Rocky, lived to be 14! Losing him was very, very hard and I cried for a few days. Now, I have Tiger, who is 13-1/2, and like I just wrote in my blog, I know her days are dwindling. Losing her will be even harder, I think, because I've been a stay-at-home mom for most of her years.

Susan, I really need to proof read! It is so sad to lose our furry friends. My brother had five cats, Mama and her four kittens. Mama outlived her babies. They died at age 16 & 17 and she died yesterday at almost age 19. I have lost several dogs and cats. It never gets easier. We have no more pets.

Lost a few hamsters when I was a kid, and a fish a few months ago, but we love, love, love, our ferrets, Claire and Sylvia.
We adopted them, and so we really don't know how old they are, but they usually live 6-9 years.
I know I will be tremendously sad when they fly away to pet heaven.
I try to spend as much time as I can being sweet and loving to them and playing with them...
Cannot imagine the grief your friend is going through--please send her our condolences?
Hugs to your beautiful Honey Cat, too!!
Darling post.

I have lost a few friends over the years; some of natural causes, some others to cruel illnesses. I have suffered more than I can tell in every single occasion; like you say, they become part of our family, and turn such amazing friends that their loss is terrible. I'm fortunate to have Lucas and Mateo with me. I'm grateful each day to have them around. I can't - and won't - even think about the day they go to heaven. Instead, I will enjoy each and every minute I'm allowed to be with them.
To your friend, my thoughts, and hopes for the comfort after such great loss.

Oh, Susan... your fur baby is so precious! We have our 16-year old cat, Tiger, who like yours, grew up with our children, now grown. And like your friend, we lost four of our pets in rapid succession over the past years. My heart breaks for her. It is hard enough to endure that kind of pain when you lose just one of your babies, but for her to have lost 3 of them at practically the same time. I am so, so sorry for her. The only comfort I can offer to her is that time, indeed, is a great healer...

As you can see, I'm reading back in your blog. Life has been hectic lately. Thanks for the post on dad's recovery :)... Donna
