On the Road Again and Blog Anniversary Giveaway Winner

It's utterly amazing how fast life goes by.

The older one gets, the faster it flies. Whole days pass in a blurry flash. First it's morning, then, before we can blink our eyes, it's night and time to go to bed.

My maternal grandmother, who lived to be 97 years old, used to ask, "How old am I?"

We would remind her of her advanced age. She would make a tsk tsk sound with her tongue and say,
"Where did the years go? I was just a young girl yesterday."

Sadly, she lived the last six years of her life without sight. She had been such an immensely talented seamstress and crocheter. Some of her crocheted table doilies were extremely intricate and detailed. She did exquisite work.

When going to visit her, I used to drive on the highway shown above. At this time of year it is ablaze with the colors of fall. When I pass by the exit where Grandma used to live, it tugs at my heart. Wouldn't it be wonderful to visit with her again in her kitchen and look at her crisply starched curtains with red and white crocheted trim?

Autumn is a bittersweet time.  It's a season of beauty but everyone knows it will soon bring icy weather and bare tree branches.   Perhaps it's better not to think of what's ahead.

It is far better to just be "on the road again!"

Congrats to Bookie/Claudia! I'm so happy for her, too!

I loved this entire post, Susan....your pictures and your words. The photos are so beautiful and your words are...Oh, so true! Remember another old saying, "Youth is wasted on the young." I never understood that when I WAS young! LOL But, now I certainly do. I try hard to live in the moment, but it's doubly hard when I'm writing my memoir! :D

What beautiful thoughts :) It reminds me of my grandmother, who is about a decade younger than yours was...

The road...always inspiring, isn't it? The mind wanders and recalls when on the road. I'm sure it must be two times more beautiful when Autumn time.

Most of my days just fly by and that does make me sad. How is it some days are so busy and yet you don't feel like you really accomplished anything. Just dealing with daily life, school, home, work is more than enough at times. My Mammaw died in 1988 and to this day, I still wish I could see her again - and sometimes dream about being with her. Congrats to Bookie. Wishing you all the best, Tammy

Congrats to Bookie, Susan! What a wonderful post today. Your words tugged at my heart. My mother lost her eyesight 4 years ago due to radiation therapy on a tumor on her pituitary gland. She used to be a librarian. It hit us all very hard. But she continues to make the best of it and treasures every day she can get up out of bed. She will always be my role model..... :)

Blessings ~

Susan, you sound like a very sentimental person, just like me. What I would give for another scrabble game with my mom.

Once again your photos are amazing. The foliage in the first one and that sky in the last - gorgeous!... Donna
