One Little "Candle" Can Make a World of Difference

Yesterday, during an "at home" day, a strawberry guava candle burned inside a holder on the table in the front hallway.

In the living room, a pumpkin spice candle filled the air with delicious fragrance.

The candles really added to the atmosphere and the enjoyment of the day.

It got me to thinking how we, as humans, can be "candles" or "lights" in the lives of others.

Small gestures can make a big difference in someone's life.

Something as insignificant as a phone call might make someone very happy.

Saying a quick and silent prayer for a friend or family member going through a hard time is being a "candle."

So is making an extra casserole for a busy mother.  That would mean a great deal to her and her family.

How about sending a short note to someone or buying a small bouquet of flowers in the supermarket for a friend in a nursing home?

Even just a smile to a stressed-out clerk can make a difference and it's definitely being a "candle" or "light" in that person's life.

Being a "candle" and lighting up someone else's life for a few precious moments would be a good thing.

CAN YOU THINK OF OTHER WAYS TO BE A "CANDLE" OR "LIGHT" IN THE WORLD TODAY?

I do my best to always spread light and love but there are those in a day that surely try to steal it away. :/ Hope your day is a good one. Tammy

Hi Susan! You are so right. This reminded me of a time I helped an elderly woman in a grocery store...it's something I even wrote about. I'll have to dig out that essay! I can just "see" you being extra kind to people, because of knowing you through your blog! Have a wonderful day!

I think I give out friendly vibes. I am often asked my opinion in a store or too help someone with a question. I always try to help and I am friendly to store clerks and say thank you! I do appreciate people and let them know! hugs, Linda

Susan, I spent most of my life trying to be a candle to someone daily. At this stage of life, I often feel like my "wick" is burned up! I work at trying to find the fire again though...

This is such a good idea for discussion, glad you brought it up to remind us to try to be an example for others. I think we are an influence on others even when we are not aware of it. Someone is always looking at the way we act, or we live in general. We certainly are human but speaking for myself, I hope my life can be a bright light to help guide others in a good, positive way. Oh my goodness, I hope that doesn't sound preachy.---------Shannon
