Spur-of-the-Moment Barbecue
Life is made up of events. The special ones are memorable but each day should be a celebration-of-sorts, don't you think?
We don't have to wait until it's a holiday to have fun, or do something out-of-the ordinary.
Last weekend, which just happened to be a holiday, Father's Day, we had a two-person barbecue.
We put a couple of steaks on the grill along with corn-on-the-cob. (There was enough meat leftover for Monday tacos!)
We also had rice and beans and salad.
It all came together fairly quickly and because I shared it with my hubs, it was special. He needed to know how much I appreciate everything he's done for our family.
I positioned myself so the fountain he put together could be seen as well as the brick patio he built underneath the fountain. Both had added so much ambiance to our backyard and are among my favorite features of our house.
The sound of trickling water is sooooo soothing.
The weather turned out to be magnificent, not too hot, not too cold.
At 5 p.m. we attended an outstanding show that has always been one of my absolute favorites, namely, Fiddler on the Roof. Gosh, every person in it had immense talent.
The show made me laugh and cry and the music made me want to get up and dance down the aisle. However, I didn't do that, especially because we were in the upstairs balcony and it's quite a drop to the ground floor.
When day was done, I thanked the Heavenly Father for all the blessings of Father's Day, my husband and of my life.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BARBECUE DISH?

Your posts are always so refreshing and gentle reminders to make everyday matter.
A very sweet post! We are so blessed to have wonderful husbands and we do thank God for them. Love your post and the BBQ looks yummy. Jim likes to grill. I think I like his grilled pork steaks the best with his special honey and brown sugar glaze.
ENJOY summer.
Much love,
Linda
Sounds like a perfect day! The platter of meat reminds me of my mom's cooking on the grill and the huge chunks of just right meat that came to the table.
lovely post ! I'll be happy if you check out my blog too=)
I love anything that is on the grill..it makes all kinds of food taste so good. I do not put sauce on anything though...I just like the flavor of the stuff plain and sweet from the grilling. Your post makes me want to cook my steak which I'm having tonight on my grill...yum.
I looks just perfect.

Sometimes the most memorable events are those that are spontaneous. It sounds as though your Father's Day meal was one of those events!
Oh, my! How can I choose my favorite barbecue dish? I think it would be a juicy hamburger with potato salad!
You always remind me to stop and savor, well, everything! Thank you, and thank you for sharing this. Always enjoy your photos and this is no exception. :)
My favorite dish - probably grilled chicken with various seasonings. My latest fun fave is a Pampered Chef Parmesan Garlic seasoning that my daughter in law gave me. (She's a consultant.) It is yummy!
Have a good weekend,
Karen
P.S. Glad you skipped dancing and falling off the balcony. :)
What a great day! Your hubby did a beautiful job with the gorgeous fountain and brickwork. Love it.
And the food, and the weather, and the show, and the companionship.
All blessings!
Sounds like a wonderful time. The fountain and patio is beautiful. I too love the sound of trickling water. If I had to choose, my favourite BBQ food (picnic food) is potatoe and egg salad and grilled burgers.
Your love story is so cute between you and your husband. I love the fountain idea and those steaks looked delish. I guess steaks are my favorite. sandie
What a joyful post! I love your sweet barbque and so glad you and your husband share such a special love!
Hi Susan! It looks like we both get to listen to trickling water from our fountains! I just love it, too! Your husband did a beautiful job on the patio! Your meal looks SO good! I'm afraid we don't grill at all. My hubby has never been into it and unless I have something where I can set temperatures, I have no confidence! Oh, how I wish we did grill after seeing your steak and corn! Hopefully this heat will lift soon!... Donna
For some reason, when I stopped eating meat, hubby stopped grilling -- even though he and the kids could still have something. Grilled veges are very nice with a dash of balsamic served over seasoned rice. Yum! Have a great weekend. Tammy
