Bread Box Helps Organize Counter

The kitchen counter tends to be a space that gathers way too many items.

Believe me, I'm no neat freak but I do like some semblance of organization.

Packages of rolls, bread, muffins and so forth really tend to pile up on the counter. 

"What I need is an old-fashioned bread box," I told myself.

In a mail order catalog, I found one!  The cost? About $52. YIKES.  Wayyyyyyy too much.

But lo and behold, last weekend at a yard sale, something on a blanket in the front yard jumped out at me. 

 It was an  old-fashioned wooden breadbox that even came with a hole for ventilation! woo hoo

From the looks of the inside, it didn't look like it had been used much at all.

The cost?  $2. Perfect!  Much better. I bought it.

Once home, scrubbed it, let it dry, then painted it a pale, lovely yellow to match the kitchen walls.

I gave it several coats to really cover the wood.

Now the kitchen counter looks much neater, my wallet is happy and so am I.
