Trolley Tour of Boston

It's exciting to explore a big city and that includes Boston.

It's a very historic city.  Taking a trolley tour is one of the best ways to learn a lot in a short amount of time and in comfort, too!

We recently hopped on an Old Town Trolley and took a tour of Boston completely arranged and paid for by our daughter and son-in-law!  That was the best present ever!

Our guide, Marc, was very knowledgeable and pleasant. He told us lots of details.

For example, when passing a statue of Christopher Columbus, he noted it was made out of the same kind of marble Michelangelo used in his statues.

We passed the rose garden dedicated to Rose Kennedy, mother of John Fitzgerald and Robert Kennedy.

We rode over bridges and spotted yachts and sailboats of the rich!

We also passed the street where Paul Revere's house was located. It had been built in 1680.

He was a silversmith and patriot who made a famous ride from Boston to Lexington to warn the colonists that the British were coming!

The guide told us Paul Revere and his wife, Sarah, had eight children. Sadly, she died after the birth of the last baby.

He remarried soon after and had, guess what?  Eight more children!  All together he had 51 grandchildren.

Will tell you more about our special day in Boston in other posts because I don't want this to get too long!

I'll close this post with some lovely flowers located in front of  Tia's Restaurant!

DO YOU ENJOY VISITING NEW CITIES?

I've been on the Swan tour or something like that but not the trolley tour of Boston. I love historical places...so glad you got some great shots and that you enjoyed your day there.

Even though we are probably considered locals, sometimes it's fun to do that kind of stuff! There is still much for us to learn about the area we live in. Have you ever been on the walking tour that goes through Little Italy? I haven't but would love to go! www.bostonfoodtours.com

I would love to ride that trolley!!! I have been to Paul Revere's house though...loved the history.

Thanks for comment today on my own blog. I was a little bummed by my giveaway...mine never do well. The earlier book review for Cairns had 20 readers...ONE comment. Hum...thanks again for letting me know there are life bodies reading! :)

Say it is cool here today!!!!

We took a double decker bus in Chicago for a tour of the city. Wonder of wonders, we didn't behave like such "country bumpkins" on that trip. Wish I could say that about some other cities I've visited since then.:) Without intention, I've succeeded in behaving like a country girl a couple of times in the past few years.:)

I'd really love to see Boston on that trolley! We have seen a very limited area in Boston - just from the train station as we sprinted to a downtown restaurant under the guidance of young friends who were going to school there. In fact, I think I could spend several weeks just touring around Massachusetts!

Girlfriend, you know we enjoy visiting and exploring cities. :) I loved this post; it made me remember our trolley tour guide while in Boston in 2009. It was a misty, rainy day, but we so enjoyed the tour. I want to go back when we have more time and can get out on foot and explore the nooks and crannies. It was neat to drive past the old bar that was used as the exterior scenes in Cheers.

Can't wait to hear the rest of your Boston review.

Hi Susan,
What a Fabulous tour you had. I love tours where the guide gives you lots of interesting bits and pieces of info...not just the basic who lives where.
Looking forward to more photos.

I love to travel and visit new places - I told you that my son lived there for a year and basically suggested we didn't come - as the traffic was so bad - is that true - I think not - lol.
