Birthday on a Budget

Don't you just  love birthday parties?

It's so delightful to celebrate life's special moments and birthdays are definitely among them.

Kids really get into celebrating their big day. Oh, how I remember planning childhood birthday bashes down to the tiniest detail.

Thankfully, my Mummy went along with me and tried to carry-out most of my wishes. Poor dear. I must have driven her crazy.

One time I wanted to serve all my friends banana splits and Mummy went out, and on her meager budget, bought glass banana split dishes!

Today, almost an entire lifetime later, I still remember that loving detail.

Anyway, there's birthday bash for a six-year-old coming up.

Being on a tight budget, I pondered what to get. The struggle was the same as always-----practical versus fun. Why not combine them both?

First of all, I got some Superman pjs. Cool, cool, cool.

Then, for pure fun, I made a great big, and I mean big, chocolate chip cookie!

Wrapped it in plastic wrap and put it in a big white paper plate.  Perfect fit!

Last but not least, I'll stop and get a certificate for a McDonald's happy meal.

The little guy should be pretty happy with that gift combination, don't you think?

WHAT DO YOU GET AS BIRTHDAY GIFTS FOR KIDS UNDER TEN YEARS OLD?

My grandson is definitely in good company with yours in wanting to be a Super Hero; anything Spiderman works! Once I found wrapping paper with Spiderman on it, sent it through my Xyron machine and backed it on mat board. Then,I sent it through my die cut machine with a "puzzle" die. He loves puzzles and he thought it was neat I handmade one!
Of course, their favorite cupcakes are always a hit. Simple and with lots of love.

What a fun gift! I don't have many around me that are young except my Grand and I get him books always and then 'something' he would love to play with!! I love the big cookie idea for when he is older!
hugs, Linda

What a nice birthday gift! I'm sure he will enjoy every bit of it!

I usually try to give something to wear, something to read, and something to play with, and I am looking for these things all during the year. It's the same policy I follow for Christmas gifts as well. As "children" become older, their "toys" take on a different twist.:)

Have a great Wednesday!

One of my grandsons once had a HUGE chocolate chip cookie as his birthday "cake" and it was wonderful! Your gifts look really great, and he will enjoy each one, I'm sure!

Thinking about the super-hero thing reminds me of a time, 35 years ago, when I was teaching the pre-school class in Sunday School. I was telling the children about Creation and how God made all the trees, flowers, birds, etc., when a little boy interrupted me with "That's nothing!" and proceeded to list a number of the "accomplishments" of Superman! Well, I had to think really quickly and explain to him that Superman was just a character made up by a writer who told good stories, while God was VERY REAL! We had a couple of other lessons after that, when I tried to imagine what the world would be like without God's creations. I hope he still recognizes that special Power in his life these days, but I have lost touch with him since he grew up...

Sounds perfect to me, Susan.

I think the PJ's were great and who doesn't want a giant cookie and McDonald's when they are 6, I would be happy with that now.

Susan I think that gift was perfect. Unless you call the mom and ask for specifics.

I made your strip steak tonight with oil and limes and IT WAS DELICIOUS! It was the best steak I ever made. My hubs was happy!

Thank you.

Great gifts!!! I want them :) Such a clever idea to make an extra huge cookie. That's exactly the kind of thing a kid will be oh so impressed with. I can just imagine his face when he sees it!!!

As an adult I would be pretty darn happy with just the giant cookie! In fact, several years ago, a friend made one for me and delivered it to school personally. Yum! Sounds like your little 6 year will be delighted with all of his goodies. So easy to please them at that age. Have a great day. Tammy
