Books as Gifts for Friends (and Me!)

In the movie, "Oliver," there's a song that goes "Food, glorious food, hot sausage and mustard..."

Do you know which one I mean?

Well, I could easily put different words to music. It would go, "Books, glorious books, You make life so happy!"

Yeah, books bring supreme joy.

No matter how many thousands we may have read, there are more to savor in the future.

Recently,  I attended a library used book sale.

An all volunteer organization raises money for the library by holding three mega sales a year. They are wonderful.

Shown in this post are some of the gems I got---- 14 of them---- and they didn't break the bank.  Ganga!

Some are going to be given as Christmas gifts, to friends, family and yours truly!  ha!

One of my hobbies is miniatures so I love the book, shown below,  by Brooke Tucker.

Another goal in mind is to attract more birds to our yard. Would ou believe I found the book below? And it came with a netted bag for birdfeed out in the backyard!

I also collect small Christmas books to keep in a basket on the bathroom counter so the one shown at the top is terrific!

I already finished reading "Silent Screams from the Hamptons." It was a riveting  story, extremely well written, and it gave a lot to think about pertaining to a wealthy lifestyle as well as the hazards of addictions.

Can't ever have enough books, now, can we?

WHEN YOU WANT  BOOKS FOR YOURSELF, WHAT  KIND DO YOU LOOK FOR?

Great post, Susan! I love books of all kinds, especially those wonderful treasures from the past. As far as looking for books for myself....I just like to browse through a store and look at EVERYTHING! .....except Sci-Fi or Paranormal.
LOVE your Frugal Gourmet book! I used to watch Jeff "religiously" every Saturday when he was on PBS years ago. I even bought one of his cookbooks because of ONE recipe he made on the show!

I usually put a few cookbooks on my Christmas list. I also really enjoy a good mystery.

I have to agree with you - I do love books. And you know so many have the Kindle and while I appreciate that - I love to hold my books - sometimes turn the corner over to share a page or mark in them.

Did you know the Frugal Gourmet was taken off the air? Remind me to tell you why if I forget.

Love, sandie

Oh, I'm a book collector too--like yarn, paper and fabric, I have enough to last me until I die! I've recently started collecting "Nancy Drew" again. I don't know what happened to the ones I had as a child, me thinks my mother probably donated them:-( But they were my favorite and got me started loving mysteries...my family calls me Sherlock Holmes!! For me, e-books will never replace the real thing to hold in your hands:-D XOXO

I'm like others who have posted here--I love to hold a book in my hands and smell the paper and bindings as I turn the pages! Yes, I'm an old lady! :-) These days, I truly enjoy books that are collections of short stories, so that there's no plot to follow and I don't have that "can't put it down" feeling. There are several of the "Stories For The Heart" books, and I think I have all of them! We are blessed to live near a Book Warehouse, and the prices on those have been quite reasonable in the past few years, so I have enjoyed buying them to give to others who enjoy those little short stories as much as I do.

Books! I absolutely cannot part with any I have! I foresee an entire room, completely lined with shelves packed with books, before I leave this world.
When I am looking for books these days, I look first for books that are on the current UMW reading list, so I do my shopping mainly online with the Mission Resource Center, or go to the nearest Cokesbury store. I'm rather sad with the most recent news, however. Cokesbury has announced the closing of their bookstores by April 2013.

Enjoy your week-end!

I love most books all art and garden books I keep but story and novels books I always pass on to my friends and they give me books to read too so I very rarely buy them. I have one cookbook I keep in my kitchen it has everything in it.
