Shawl "Table Runner" and Old-Fashioned Punch Bowl

Today we are joining Diann's Thrifty Things Friday  at The Thrifty Groove. Go on over and see all the wonderful entries!

Well, regular readers of my blog have already read about one of my  recent impulse  purchases, a gorgeous cut glass punch bowl on a beautiful stand that I got for $15.OO!

If interested, you can read it here: http://writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com/2012/11/cut-glass-punch-bowl.html

Well, I've been placing a candle inside it and the effect has been lovely. (Want to see nighttime photos of it? Look here:)

Next, I needed a pink table runner to put on top of the hutch where the punch bowl is but alas, didn't have one. Didn't want to buy one, either.

So I ran up to my bedroom closet and retrieved a pink shawl with really pretty fringe.

Worked perfectly and didn't cost a dime!

Now that's the kind of holiday decorating I really love.

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU GAVE AN ITEM A DIFFERENT PURPOSE THAN FOR WHAT IT WAS INTENDED?

I think you need to get a video camera and do a tour of your home - I bet it is all dressed to the hilt! So pretty.

I think I improvise a lot myself - but not as pretty as you!

I re-purposed something just about 10 hours ago. My grand daughter spilled milk on my purse so I put all my purse stuff in PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS.
BTW - I love the punch bowl, especially with the candle in it. Good deal/price too.

Hi Susan,
I like the pink shawl, it finishes off your display perfectly.
I use a white ceramic biscuit jar to hold my spoons on my bench top and I opened the curled arms of a tooth brush holder just a little and use it to hold the sink plug on the wall... it has a suction cup on the back.
Have a good day

The table runner is gorgeous! I am forever and a day using things for a different purpose than they were originally intended. I think that is what you are suppose to do..............LOL
anyway, your decorations are very beautiful. You are a very talented and creative person.

I do love that punch bowl, and the decorative greenery on the bottom is really festive, along with the shawl/table runner! I do not have much imagination, but my small kitchen causes me to be a bit creative when cooling cakes, cookies, etc. I lower the lid on my washer and put my rack on it for that purpose. Not terribly glamorous, but it works! :-)

Such a lovely use for that punch bowl!

I am currently using a Lady Anne salad bowl for a collection of ornaments. It is sitting in the middle of the dining room table! Also, the wooden dough bowl makes a good fruit bowl in the kitchen.:)

Enjoy your week-end, Susan!

The shawl is ingenious! However, I got a chuckle thinking back to an old Ellen Degeneras show where Martha Stewart was coming for an "autumnal dinner. She took out a wedding dress she had bought (years ago, but hadn't worn) and used it as the table cloth:-D That punch bowl is going to be your most valuable treasure, me thinks! XOXO

Your a born decorator... the shawl looks great....I looked about my apartment and the only thing I can find is a coffee mug I use to hold my sharpie pens. :-/

I love re-purposing items. I've used pretty bowls as containers for not so pretty flowerpots.
