Gratitude Sunday #5

Today we are joining Linda's 5th Gratitude Sunday on her blog, A La Carte.

Stop by there and pay a visit. See what others are thankful for.

Today, and every day, actually, I am grateful for anything green during this time of dark and c-c-c-old winter.

Honestly, there are moments when the winter seems very long and arduous.

In reality, it hasn't been really, really cold until now and it's February.

Before we know it, there'll be crocuses jutting up above the frozen earth.

In the meantime, however, my soul yearns for green.

In the supermarket a few weeks ago, I was soooooo happy to see a box of paper white bulbs in the discount rack for the ridiculously low price of about $2.00.

Into my cart went the box! Hubs was skeptical the bulbs would bloom during the heart of winter.

I assured him they would

So into a pot with the accompanying potting soil they went and took up residence in my upstairs office.

From time to time, I'd peek in and see green shoots. Then, the shoots became long stalks and then, finally, lovely white flowers appeared.

They had a delicate sweet scent if you stuck your nose into the blooms.

For many days, the sight of the paper whites in the middle of the kitchen table made me smile.

It's so wonderful and refreshing to see GREEN during the wintertime.

The paper whites are now gone by and their bulbs will be ready for replanting in the spring.

In the meantime, sweet memories of those gorgeous blossoms and long green stems lull me into dreaming of spring flowers.

DO YOU HAVE ANY LIVING PLANTS IN YOUR HOUSE?

I don't have any living plant but I just had a birthday and got 18 gorgeous red ruby roses and `12 peach roses. I think I may have to discard them today as it has been two weeks since I got them..I loved smelling them and looking at them and taking pictures of them. We don't have winter here so we enjoy blooms all year round.

It's the simple things that make us happiest. No indoor plants, but do love outdoor flowers.

This is the first year I have not grown Paper Whites and looking at yours makes me wish I had. I love the fragrance and they do bring a bit of Spring into the indoors, especially if you're having severe weather.
I'm grateful, always, for having you as a friend and enjoying your blog, XOXO

Hello from Spain: I have plants in my garden. In my house I have no plants because I have two little girls and they are playing all the time. Your plants are beautiful. Keep in touch

We have several plants in the house, and we are still blessed by a lovely blooming poinsettia from Christmas!

Our day has included a light snowfall, with a bit of ice as well. Our temperature is quickly rising, though, and traces of snow will soon be gone.

Your paper whites are quite lovely, Susan...just right for a winter Sunday. Have a good day...we are going to friends in a bit for chili and football. I am taking spicy crackers and homemade pimento cheese...looking forward to that more than football, ha-ha.

We have one plant inside, an aloe plant that we brought to our place when our neighbor entered a nursing home. I have such a brown thumb that I'm surprised it has lived this long, but I hope to keep it growing! It really is a good thing to have around in case of a burn!

Your flowers were beautiful!
I understand what you mean about needing some flowers in the house during these long winter months.
I'm happy our market carries fresh roses, and bouquets every week.
Happy Sunday!!

I love your flowers, I was planning to plant few bulbous flowers too, but haven't purchased the bulbs yet.
Yes, I also have few plants growing at the back yard, like marigolds, some lettuce, garlic, onion and sansevieria.

I find it amazing that they can actually bloom indoors. I've never tried forcing bulbs but would like to one day. Wonder if we can ever buy bulbs here. :) Best wishes, Tammy
