Birdie Haven in the Back Yard

Today we are joining Home and Garden Thursday on Kathy's blog, A Delightsome Life.

Stop by and visit. You will find some truly, well, "delightsome" posts of bloggers doing all kinds of things in their homes and gardens!

And Kathy is a really nice blogger so go on over to her blog and say "hi."

Now, for today's post:

Last year's birdbath is this season's sculpture.

Yup, last year there was a big, beautiful blue and white patterned bowl on a stand affixed to the post.

I filled it with water, hoping to attract neighborhood feathered friends.

Unfortunately, no birds found their way to the makeshift birdbath and then the stand fell over and the beautiful bowl broke.

Never fear, that's not the end of  the story.

Hubs found one of my little concrete birdies and put him on top  of the white stand in the remaining part of the former birdbath.

This year, wouldn't you know it, the birds are coming to our yard in droves!

We added two bird feeders and a new birdbath that I found in a thrift store.

Now, the "boidies" can eat, drink or bathe!

Do you think the little concrete sculpture nearby made them feel secure enough to venture into the yard?

WHAT DO YOU FEED WILD BIRDS IN YOUR AREA?

I think that bird was meant to fill the spot.
I buy the wild bird feed big bag it last a good while.
I also have a bird bath for the little feather friends too.

We actually don't attempt to feed the birds intentionally, but they are very happy when they eat the cherries and blueberries we grow!:-)
Bird feeders attract pigeons here, and that isn't something we relish. They then roost all over the rooftops on our street. Also, we frequently have crows around.

We have a blue wren family, many doves, two blackbirds as visitors all the time a few other odd ones come and go. Pidge doesn't allow any other pigeons but him in the yard. He had a girlfriend but they must of had a fight and broke up so he is nursing a broken heart.

I do wonder if there wasn't something in the change in your yard that made the birds feel safe and welcome.
I do hope you are doing well.

I love your little bird and it probably does make the other birdies feel safe.

I live next door to a national wildlife refuge. We have lots of birds in our yard. I feed them a general bird seed mix --- plus this year I didn't trim or prune my flowers in the fall so that the seeds would be available all winter for the birds. They love it!

That birdie looks very nice and comfy in there. Glad your little ones is arriving again, and that they do get the chance to take their bath. Enjoy your day!

I guess it made birds feel more comfortable to come and bath. The concrete bird looks so nice and matches the overall composition.
As I had told, we don't attract birds especially and don't feed them, but we do leave water for them in the summer as they suffer from thirst a lot too.

The piece that has the blue flowers on it - is that the bird feeder or bird bath? Bet the birds would rather have the bird feeder!! As long as you don't have hawks or cats in your back yard, I would think that the birds would love coming into your back yard!

I think it probably did attract others. We get lots of birds to the birdbath and flowering bushes, but we don't feed them otherwise, being near a Port we can get rats. Your birdie is lovely. I'm into birdie ornaments at the moment. :)

I'm afraid I do not feed the birds that I have in my yard. I do love to see them though especially the little humming birds. They come and fly all around the blossoms in my yard.

I have my dad's genes when it comes to watching birds...next to flowers, it's the best thing. I know they're having a smorgasbord at your home, XOXO

I'm guessing the little bird is acting like a decoy. It's floral decoration is very pretty.

I am not sure the birds in my area are wild LOL...they act pretty citified and are well fed with a lake to get water. I think your birds have a sense of style...and like the bird statue. :)

Your white bird bath is delightful, Susan. There are alot of birds coming and going in our back yard, but I would love to get a bird feeder to watch the hummingbirds visit. They are my favorite special bird. Let me know if you ever see any in your back yard, would you?

Love,
~Sheri
