Bushy "Tale" Lament

The "tale" of the squirrels is far from over.

As mentioned before on this blog, squirrels have been eating the seed we put out for the birds.

I thought the feeder we had was squirrel-proof but it turned out not to be.

So the birdies have had to share their seeds with the neighborhood bushy tails.

It's infuriating.

The other day, I looked out of the back door and caught one of the little rapscallions red handed.

There he was, sticking his paw right into the feeder.

When I complained to my hubs, he said, "They need to eat, too, honey."

Yeah. Right.  Wish they'd go elsewhere.
It took so long to finally attract the birds to our yard.

When I saw the thieving bushy tail, I went out onto the back porch and made a noise.

He scurried as fast as the wind down the pole, ran across the lawn and darted up to the top of the fence.

Talk about lunch on-the-run!

DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SQUIRRELS?

Hi Susan ...... we don't have squirrels in Australia......I can understand how these cute(well, cute to me) animals eating your birdseed, would be annoying...... I hope you find a solution to the problem...

It didn't seem that we had as many last year as previously....still, I'm finding walnuts buried EVERYWHERE in our flower beds....

Susan your feeder is just too squirrel friendly! You have to get a feeder that is harder for them to eat from. Sadly they will chase off the birds! Good Luck!

You need a dog, Susan. One that loves to chase squirrels. It works around here!

I prefer birds over squirrels any day! At least they have bushy tails because if they didn't they would look like rats! My squirrels just screech at me from the trees. I always think they're going to come flying down at me, they sound so angry!

We have both in our yard and the squirrels can't get into our bird feeders. Try another type of feeder we have one that pulls down to open for the birds with their weight. The squirrels don't even try!
Jimmy has a little squirrel friend Buddy who follows him like a dog. He feeds him nuts and Buddy knows it!
We have managed to feed both peacefully!

John once bought a battery operated (huge) bird feeder from a Wildlife center that gave the squirrels a mild shock when they stepped on it. They quickly jumped off!

It worked great and lasted several years but we didn't replace it as it was expensive.

I know a lot about squirrels and none of it good! They can eat little pieces of wood and get into your attic and nest. I know that for a fact! lol. Sandie

Little bushy tailed tree rats will steal anything including whole tomatoes off the vine.

We have never had any unfortunate encounters with squirrels, and there are none that I have ever seen on our property here. I have heard a story of squirrels somehow gaining an entrance into someone's attic at one point. That was a huge problem for the owner!

Squirrels in India are very small and very very fast! You'd never be able to take a picture of them. I don't what actually can be done in your situation, when squirrels steal from birds...but I hope you'll find solution soon.
Have a fab week ahead!
