The Hostas Are Coming, The Hostas Are Coming!

Just heard from Anu, on the blog My Dream Canvas, that she is having a wonderful giveaway.

The winner, to be selected this month, will receive four lovely and colorful Ikat frames.

Go to her blog to read all about it!

Anu's posts are always postive and  colorful!

And now for today's post at Writing Straight from the Heart:

Hostas are plants that come in numerous varieties.

They have not been claimed among my favorites but I've got to be honest, they are very hard to kill.

Their origin is in China.

Just a few days ago, the above plants looked like this:

We have hostas growing at the very beginning of our front yard sidewalk, leading up to the house.

They are just  starting to grow now, as shown in this post.

Almost overnight, they popped up and out in full greenery.

There have been times when I wondered if they would block the sidewalk all together.

Hostas even grow in the shade.

At first, I wanted hubs to dig them up but now I've grown accustomed to them.

Long live the hostas!

ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THIS PLANT?

Hello! Yes we had hostas in Chicago and we have them here too - but they don't ever go away down here - it leaves out all the time.

Hope you had a good day.

They multiply and thicken so fast in our part of the country. They are decoratove plants that many folks put around trees.

Hi, Susan! No, I don't know this plant, but the way it sprouts, it reminds me bamboo... very persistent indeed!

I love Hostas! When we lived in Connecticut, the deer thought they were the best thing they ever ate; here in the Pacific Northwest, the deer don't touch them--go figure. XOXO

Don't know of this plant. I have something like it in my back yard..it even grows in other plants containers when it starts to spread. I had it dug up once but it grew back...I hope you enjoy yours!

Yes, Hostas are incorrigible! I love them for their variegated leaves and their persistence. I had a wooden plant stand and had planted a hosta in it. In the fall it died back and I put 2 blocks of wood and and a lantern on top of it. It stayed that way all through the winter.
Spring came. I left the wood blocks in place and put out some Easter "grass" with an iron rabbit on top. A few weeks ago I cleaned out the display along with the wooden blocks. Forgot all about the hosta growing in there. What do you think I found? A hosta pushing up through the dirt under the blocks. No light, no water. Frozen through a New England winter. Still growing and now it looks great. Thank you Hosta.

Love them! Good cover for dying spring bulb foliage.

Oh, yes. We had hostas at our other house (31 years) as they were plants that would do well in shade. Here, we have lots of sunshine and very little shade, so we haven't planted any hostas. They really require very little attention, if I remember correctly. That makes them a good plant to have around, in my opinion.:-)

On yes I know all about Hostas. I have them in many places around my yard. Hostas are generally associated with shade so that's why I love them. Very reliable!
