TUESDAY: A Town Where Lots of Flowers Grow

Every time we drive through a certain New England town, gratitude for the people who grow the flowers there fills my heart.

It's the town of Lee, Massachusetts.

Every spring, summer and fall, I admire the huge floral arrangements that hang from old-fashioned looking lampposts.

They are soooooooo gorgeous.

There are window boxes all over the town, too, both in the business section and in private homes.

Flowers, flowers everywhere in Lee, even hanging in happy profusion from dozens of private home porches such as these:

Don't you think it's wonderful when citizens care enough about their town to make glorious floral masterpieces?

Okay, gardeners out there.  Please identify these bright red flowers  that fill one street side garden bed in Lee.

Their flaming color is absolutely eye-popping:

DO A LOT OF FLOWERS GROW IN THE PLACE WHERE YOU LIVE?

I would fall in love with this town and its flowers too, if I visited. The people must be super to create such displays. Those hanging baskets are bigger than any I've grown ever.

These flowers are gorgeous. Yes we have lots of flowers in our town too and lovely purple Jacanda trees all over the highway on my way to work.

Do you think they do that on purpose in their community? I do know in Atlanta - on East Paces Ferry - where the governor's mansion is - they have the most beautiful yards - it is amazing to see the beauty.

Some places have florals like that. I drove through a small town called Duschesne over the weekend and they had those beautiful hanging plants down main street.

Our area has lots of flowers, but usually only in the springtime. I think the prettiest place I've seen, where there are flowers year-round, is Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. The horticulture department at the college takes care of the grounds around the city, and when we were there one October, the place was breathtakingly lovely! There is even a floral clock that changes as the different flowers grow. Your photos are gorgeous, Susan! I have seen that flaming red flower around here, but don't know the name of it. Someone has said that it's a zinnia, but our zinnias are not like that, so I just don't know. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

The town of Lee does have some fabulous flowers. I think the red one you asked about is called celosia. The red color is great for late summer/fall, isn't it? Even tho it is September, all the flowers are still so vibrant. We should enjoy them while we can, as autumn is in the air.

We have many crepe myrtle trees growing in my area - purple and pink ones. These flowers growing in the town of Lee are beautiful. My favorite are the vibrant pink ones.

Love,
