In the busyness of this holiday season, take time to be still.
"Be still and know that I am God."
How can we connect with our spiritual selves without silence?
Please don't get me wrong. I love to listen to Christmas carols.
As a matter of fact, except for the expense, I love just about everything about Christmas---the decorations, the gifts, the entertaining, the goodies and so on.
But, at times, it's important to just stop and think about why we celebrate.
It's so amazing to think of the humble circumstances of His birth.
Little Jesus was born in a cattle stall with hay and farm animals nearby.
What was it like that night? Were there lots of stars in the dark heavens or just that one huge one shining down on the manger? What were the smells? Was it chilly? Did the baby cry when He was born?
Thinking about the night that changed our world forever, I feel overwhelmed with love and gratitude.
When I look at an angel decoration or at Mary sitting by her baby, peace fills my heart.
Take a moment for contemplation and peace will fill your heart, too.
HOW DO YOU FIND TIME TO BE STILL DURING THE HOLIDAYS?

First, thanks for the nice comment on my blog.
BE STILL...is my favorite verse of all times. I use it to center...to say when I have no other words. It seems to say it all. It is very hard to find meditation type time anymore so when all else fails, the one verse holds me up.
I pften take time away from the hectic world and just think, pray, and listen.
What a lovely post this is, Susan.

Beautiful.
Hello from Spain: I enjoy remembering the origin of Christmas. Today, Christmas is too much consumption in stores. Society has to reflect on the birth of Jesus. Keep in touch
Your post had a calming effect, and it is so true when we get still and reflect our own light seems to shine. Have a great day. We are expecting sleet this afternoon.
Good post today, it is more important than you would think to just be still. I find stillness when I paint.
There is a beautiful Christmas song called "Still, Still, Still" and whenever I hear it I think of that special night. I love to hear the carols at Christmas time!
We do try. One thing my daughter does is get a Happy Birthday Jesus cake.
Remember when we gave birth - can you imagine Mary riding on a donkey ready to deliver? And then delivery in a stable.
You wonder how she did it don't you?

I try each evening to just sit and enjoy the quietness of life and think about the season. The lights on the tree in a darkened home just makes the world calm and magical.
Such a great idea! Right before I go to sleep each night, I think back on my day, my family and marvel at how blessed I am. :) Enjoy these days leading up to Christmas. Kit
