January Blues

January tends to be a difficult month.

We have left the Christmas and New Year's celebrations behind.

It's all kind of a letdown.

There's a lot of sickness around, too,  and that's not funny.

An anecdote for the January blues (and for everything, really) is gratitude.

Feeling less than great, with a sore throat, I spent a lot of hours in bed, sipping honey/lemon/ginger tea and reading a Chicken Soup book on grandparenting.

One of my sisters gave it to me for Christmas.

Another sister sent over chicken soup to help my throat.

That's already a lot to be thankful for, I thought.

Despite not feeling  great, I was thankful to be able to spend time in my warm and cozy bed.

I loved seeing bright sunshine filtering through the lacy curtains in the bedroom.

There were warm socks, bathrobe and plenty of Ibuprofen as well as the tea.

These are all things some people don't have at all when they are sick.

Plus, I loved having precious hours to read with no interruptions.

Sometimes being sick has blessings in disguise.

HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF WHEN YOU ARE SICK?

So I am wondering and hoping you are better today. Those sore throats can really be wicked.

That was so sweet about the chicken soup - for the stomach and for the soul. You have some good caretakers there.

And yes i do think we should all take care of ourselves when we are sick!

Feel better!

Hope you feel better soon. Chicken Soup whether in the form of liquid or words is always good for what ails you.

Hope you are feeling better. But even if you are, staying in bed with tea and books is a great tonic for any day!

I would do the same things you are doing when you are sick..stay in bed, make chicken soup, drink tea. Feel better today Susan. Thanks for posting even when you don't feel good!

I hope you are feeling much better! January is a hard month I agree. Cold, lots of sickness and that after Christmas let down. I rest and drink lots of fluids to try to restore health. Big Hugs to you!!

I'm on my second bout of flu/cold - whatever it is. Every night I go to bed thinking "tomorrow I'll be better". But so far, not! It just seems to shift around from head, to chest, to nose, to throat...

Sipping something hot helps (while I'm sipping). And a hot, steamy shower does wonders (but you can only stand in the shower so long before hot water runs out)!

Hope you (and I) and ALL suffering from this stuff feel better soon!

I am sorry to hear you have not been well. It does sound as though you have had some good TLC from your family, though. Rest in bed, drink plenty of liquids, and eat that chicken soup! Sounds like a great prescription!

So sorry to hear your are sick. Sore throats are the worst. I just got over some kind of flu type virus, but did not have much of a sore throat; mostly head and chest congestion and a lot of body aches.

All the things you are doing are soothing and promote wellness. Remember to "let" your body be sick and do it's work of getting better.

Get well soon!

I'm so sorry you're sick, Susan! I don't remember ever reading that you were before. So, hopefully, you don't get sick often? There's another thing to be grateful/thankful for! :) You're doing what I do when I'm sick. Stay in bed, sleep a lot, read if I feel like it, etc. Oh, and I have Vern to help keep me company....and keep me warm!
